MODEL 453.0/3/4

Function requirements for driving lights actuation, general

Driving lights actuation, general

Driving lights actuation includes all functions which serve the optimum illumination of the road while driving.

The driving lights actuation function is comprised of the following subfunctions:

IMPORTANT The associated headlamp range adjustment and cornering lights functions belonging to the driving lights actuation are described in separate documents.

Additional function requirements, low beam actuation

Function sequence for low beam actuation

Turning the combination switch (S4) into the "low beams" position requests actuation of the low beams.

The driver-side SAM control unit (N10/11) reads in the status of the combination switch directly and then actuates the left low beam (E1 e2) as well as the right low beam (E2e2).

Function sequence for high beam actuation

The high beams actuation is comprised of the following subfunctions:

Additional function requirements for high beams

Function sequence for high beams

High beam actuation is requested by pushing the combination switch forward.

The driver-side SAM control unit reads in the status of the combination switch directly and then actuates the left high beam (E1 e1) as well as the right high beam (E2e1) and makes the "High beam actuation active" status available on the interior CAN (CAN B). The center SAM control unit (N10/10) forwards the request to the instrument cluster (A1), which then actuates the high beams indicator lamp (A1 e3).

Function sequence for headlamp flasher

The function sequence and signal path for the headlamp flasher function correspond to that of the high beam function. However, to request the headlamp flasher function, the combination switch must be pulled backward. The high beam actuation remains active for as long as the combination switch is held in this position.

Additional function requirements for daytime running lights actuation

Function sequence for daytime running lights actuation

The "Engine running" status is provided by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (except model 453.091/391/491) on the interior CAN.

The drivetrain operational "READY" status (model 453.091/391/491) is provided by the electric drive control unit (N127) on the interior CAN.

The center SAM control unit receives this status and sends the request "Daytime running lights On" via the interior CAN to the driver-side SAM control unit.

The ambient brightness is recorded by the rain/light sensor (B38/2) and transmitted to the driver-side SAM control unit.

The driver-side SAM control unit reads in the status of the combination switch directly.

The driver-side SAM control unit reads in all relevant information, evaluates it and actuates the left parking light, standing light and daytime running light (E1 e13) and the right parking light, standing light and daytime running light (E2e13).

Additional function requirements for auto on/off driving lights

Function sequence for auto on/off driving lights

The ME-SFI [ME] control unit transmits the "Engine running" status (except model 453.091/391/491) or the electric drive control unit (model 453.091/391/491) transmits the "Drivetrain operational, READY" status via the interior CAN to the driver-side SAM control unit.

Information about the vehicle speed is made available by the Electronic Stability Program on the interior CAN.

The ambient brightness is recorded by the rain/light sensor and transmitted to the driver-side SAM control unit.

If darkness is detected, the driver-side SAM control unit activates the left low beam and right low beam.
