Front fog light actuation, general 

Front fog light actuation provides better illumination of the road while driving as well as illuminating the rear of the vehicle under bad weather conditions.

The front fog light actuation consists of the following partial functions:

• Function sequence for front fog lamp actuation (with code V07 (Front fog lamp (FFO)))
• Rear fog light actuation function sequence

Function sequence for front fog lamp actuation (with code V07 (Front fog lamp (FFO))) 

The front fog lamp actuation is requested by turning the center ring of the combination switch (S4) towards the front fog lamp symbol.

The center ring automatically returns to the neutral position when released. If the center ring is turned towards the front fog lamp symbol, the front fog lamp actuation is disabled.

The driver-side SAM control unit (N10/11) directly reads in the status of the combination switch and actuates the left front fog lamp (E5/1) and the right front fog lamp (E5/2).

The active front fog light actuation is indicated visually to the driver. To do so, the driver-side SAM control unit sends the "Front fog lamp indicator lamp On" request via interior CAN (CAN B) to the instrument cluster (A1), which then activates the front fog lamp indicator lamp (A1e57).

Rear fog light actuation function sequence 

In vehicles with code V07 (Front fog lamp (FFO)), the front fog lamps must be activated before the rear fog light is switched on.

The rear fog lamp is requested by turning the center ring of the combination switch (S4) towards the rear fog light symbol.

The center ring automatically returns to the neutral position when released. If the center ring is turned towards the rear fog light symbol again, the front fog lamp actuation is disabled.

The driver-side SAM control unit (N10/11) reads in the status of the combination switch directly and then actuates the left rear fog light (E3e5) and right rear fog light (E4e5).

The active rear fog light actuation is indicated visually to the driver. To do so, the driver-side SAM control unit sends the "Rear fog light indicator lamp On" request via interior CAN (CAN B) to the instrument cluster, which then actuates the rear fog light indicator lamp (A1e18).

The rear fog light is switched off if the driver:

• Switches off the engine (only in "Auto" position) (except model 453.091/391/491)
• Switches off the drivetrain (status "READY" OFF) (model 453.091/391/491)
• Switches off the light
• Switches off the engine (except model 453.091/391/491) or drivetrain (model 453.091/391/491) and opens the driver door
