WARNING Risk of injury  caused by contact with battery gel when handling damaged lead-gel batteries No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. AS54.10-Z-0001-02A 
WARNING Risk of injury  caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte or due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries  due to thermal changes. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses. In the event of escaping battery electrolyte, battery vapors, battery mist, smoke or heat development, secure the area, leave it and alert the fire department. AS54.10-Z-0001-04A 
  Risk of explosion  from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

INSPECT Check     
1 Open maintenance flap With on-board electrical system battery (G1) installed.  
2 Check installation position of vent hose and stop plugs of on-board electrical system battery (G1) With on-board electrical system battery (G1) installed.
If there are problems

Correct installation position of vent hose or stop plugs of on-board electrical system battery (G1).
 
3 Check condition of on-board electrical system battery (G1) Not with on-board electrical system battery (G1) installed with active transport mode. AR54.10-P-1129SR 
  Charging     
4 Connect positive terminal for charger (2) to positive pole of on-board electrical system battery (G1) and ground clamp for charger (3) to negative pole of on-board electrical system battery (G1)    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 00 81 00 Charger NOTES Do not reverse polarity.
Otherwise a short circuit will cause damage.

5 Charge on-board electrical system battery (G1) IMPORTANT Charge on-board electrical system battery (G1) using approved charger only.
The battery charging period depends on the charge level of the on-board electrical system battery (G1).
The on-board electrical system battery (G1) is sufficiently charged when the displayed charging current is < 5 A.
Interrupt charging process when charging current undershoots 25 A during Midtronics test.
 
6 Switch off charger NOTES Charger must be switched off before disconnecting.
Arcing can otherwise occur.
 
7 Disconnect positive terminal for charger (2) from positive pole of on-board electrical system battery (G1) and ground clamp for charger (3) from negative pole of on-board electrical system battery (G1) and close maintenance flap    
INSPECT Check     
8 Check condition of on-board electrical system battery (G1) Not with active transport mode. AR54.10-P-1129SR
