The following operations steps describe a partial repair of the outer side longitudinal member; depending on the scope of damage, it is necessary to replace the entire outer side longitudinal member or side wall.
Shown on model 453.4
- Mark and cut separating points on outer side longitudinal member (1) (areas A and B).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Grind off beaded edge on wheel arch on outer side longitudinal member (1) (area C).
- Remove remaining piece of beaded edge of outer side longitudinal member (1).
- Expose spot welds on outer side longitudinal member (1) and cut out (areas D and E).
- Heat outer side longitudinal (1) with heat gun (area C).
Crosshatched area is bonded.
- Remove outer side longitudinal member (1).
- Remove remaining adhesive (area C).
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in crosshatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (area C).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
