Risk Of Explosion Caused By Fuel Igniting. Risk Of Injury To Skin And Eyes Caused By Fuel Spraying Out At High Pressure - AS07.16-Z-0001-01A
ENGINE ALL (4xWD, CAR, Light transporter, smart)
Keep all ignition sources out of hazard area. Do not carry out any work on system when it is pressurized.
Potential risks
Risk of explosion!
When working on the fuel injection system (e.g. at injection nozzles, pressure lines, rail, high-pressure pump, etc.) while the engine is running or within 30 s after shutting off the engine, fuel can escape at high pressure. When opening the pressurized system, there is a risk of explosion due to very finely atomized fuel coming into contact with an ignition source.
Risk of injury!
Highly pressurized fuel may penetrate deep into the skin and destroy the tissue. Fuel can get into the blood circulation and cause blood poisoning.
Rules of conduct and safety precautions
- Keep ignition sources such as e. g. sparks, cigarettes or open flames away from the fuel.
- Do not carry out any work on the system when it is pressurized.
First-aid measures
- Clean wound.
- If blood poisoning is suspected, apply tourniquet to affected body parts and consult a physician.
