Risk Of Injury Caused By Pinching Or Crushing When Working On Springs Or Spring Bodies That Are Under Tension - AS00.00-Z-0001-01A

MODEL ALL (4xWD, BUS, CAR, Heavy transporter, Light transporter, TRUCK, UNIMOG, smart)

Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves.

Risk of pinching and jamming body parts when working on pre-tensioned components.

When loosening or removing parts that are under pre-tension (e.g. springs, spring-loaded actuators, air springs), serious injuries  can occur if non-approved  tensioning devices are used and if the work instructions are not observed  .

Safety instructions/precautions

Release pressure in air springs as per the work instructions using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

When conducting repair work on springs, spring bodies, spring-loaded actuators and other components under pre-tension, use approved tensioning devices only  and be sure to observe the work instructions.

Spring compressors

Spring compressors may be placed under tension or released with an impact wrench only when this is explicitly permitted by the manufacturer.

Check tensioning devices

IMPORTANT The coil diameter of the spring must match the groove in the clamping plate.

IMPORTANT Before a spring is placed under tension, always check the proper seating of the clamping plates on the spring and on the tensioning device.

Wear protective gloves during all operations.
