Remove/Install Rear Axle Crossmember - AR35.15-P-0250SR

REMOVING Remove     
1 REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS Prepare threaded rods (4) for lowering rear axle crossmember (1) Threaded rod for lowering rear axle crossmember   WF58.50-P-3515-01SR
2 Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.
Lift vehicle on vehicle lift
Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
IMPORTANT Align the turn plates so that the screws of the rubber pads on the turn plates cannot come into contact with vehicle parts while jacking up.

3 Unscrew bolts (2) IMPORTANT Do not unscrew screws (3).  
4 Screw nuts (5) onto both threaded rods (4) with washers    
5 Screw threaded rods (4) into threaded holes for screws (2)    
6 Adjust distance dimension (a) by twisting the nuts (5) IMPORTANT Distance dimension (a): approx. 25 mm  
7 Remove screws (3) alternately IMPORTANT Otherwise the rear axle cross member (1) may become tilted on the threaded rods (4).  
8 Lower rear axle crossmember (1) until it is free of tension by loosening nuts (5) NOTES When lowering the rear axle cross member (1) make sure that it does not come into contact with the transmission housing.
Otherwise this can lead to paint damage and corrosion on the rear axle cross member (1).
 
9 Remove threaded rods (4) from body IMPORTANT The nuts (5) and shims can remain loosely screwed onto the threaded rods (4), as they will be used again later on for assembly.  
10 Unscrew nuts (6) and remove washers    
11 Pull out screws (7) and remove rear axle crossmember (1) from control arms (8, 9)    
INSPECT Check     
12 Check control arm elastomer bearings (8, 9) for damage and wear If there are problems

Replace appropriate elastomer bearing.
 
INSTALLING Install     
13 Position rear axle crossmember (1) on control arms (8, 9) and insert screws (7)    
14 Position shims and screw on nuts (6) up to mounting surface    
15 Screw threaded rods (4) through bores of rear axle cross member (1) into threaded holes for bolts (2)    
16 Screw nuts (5) onto threaded rods (4) up to mounting surface of rear axle crossmember (1) on the body IMPORTANT Screw in nuts (5) alternately on right and left sides to avoid tilting the rear axle cross member (1) on the threaded rods (4).
When positioning rear axle crossmember (1) on body, ensure that guide pins (10) are inserted into the body's corresponding threaded holes.
 
17 Tighten bolts (3) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, cross member for rear axle to body *BA35.10-P-1001-03B 
18 Remove threaded rods (4) from body    
19 Tighten bolts (2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, cross member for rear axle to body *BA35.10-P-1001-03B 
20 Lower vehicle with vehicle lift    
21 Counterhold nuts (6) and tighten screws (7) NOTES Only tighten screws (7) when the vehicle is completely lowered and deflected.
Otherwise there may be initial damage caused by elastomer bearing tension on the control arms (8, 9).
IMPORTANT Bolts may only be tightened (7) when the vehicle is completely lowered and deflected.
