Power steering - Check the oil level - AP46.00-P-4612EW

MODEL 212 with ENGINE 156, 271, 272, 273, 276, 642, 651 without CODE 211 (Direct-Steer system)

REMOVING Remove     
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing hydraulic fluid. Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. AS00.00-Z-0013-01A
1 Switch off ignition    
2 Open engine hood    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR88.40-P-1000EW
3.1 Remove left engine intake air duct (3) Engine 272, 273  
3.2 Remove upper engine cover ENGINE 642, 651
NOTES Place upper engine cover onto padded base.
It can otherwise be damaged.
 
3.3 Remove front engine cover Engine 156, 276
NOTES Place front engine cover on a padded base.
It can otherwise be damaged.
 
4 Remove cap (1) of power steering expansion reservoir (2) NOTES The area around the separating point must be cleaned thoroughly before the hydraulic system of the power steering is cleaned.
Even minute particles of dirt can result in malfunctions and damage to the hydraulic components.
IMPORTANT Press the cap (1) downwards and turn counterclockwise through 90°.
 
5 Wipe off oil dipstick (1a) with a fluff-free rag and seal the expansion reservoir (2) with cap (1) IMPORTANT Press the cap (1) downwards and turn clockwise through 90°.  
INSPECT Check     
6 Remove cap (1) and read off oil level on oil dipstick (1a) IMPORTANT Observe oil temperature and markings on oil dipstick (1a). The oil level must be between the "MIN" and "MAX" markings which correspond to the oil temperature.
IMPORTANT In order to avoid measurement errors, hold the oil dipstick (1a) upright.
If the oil level is too low:

Determine and rectify cause, subject to separate repair order.
 
INSTALLING Install     
7 Seal expansion reservoir (2) with cap (1)    
8.1 Install left engine intake air duct (3) Engine 272, 273  
8.2 Install upper engine cover ENGINE 642, 651  
8.3 Fit front engine cover Engine 156, 276  
9 Close engine hood
