Risk of injury
Contact with hot, glowing objects without suitable protective clothing can cause severe burns to the skin and eyes.
Risk of fire
when hot, glowing objects come into contact with combustible materials. When hot, glowing objects come into contact with water, they produce hot water vapors or cause the water to splash, which can cause serious burns to skin or eyes.
Safety precautions/instructions
- Protective clothing, safety glasses and heat-resistant gloves must always be worn.
- If possible, first let the hot, glowing object cool off to the ambient temperature. If this is not possible, transport the glowing object using equipment that is specially made for this purpose only.
- Avoid the formation of sparks and contact with combustible material when handling glowing objects.
- Workshop personnel must demonstrate their knowledge in accordance with the OSHA requirements (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and be able to act accordingly.
First-aid measures
In the event of burns place the affected body part under cold running water for at least 15 min. Cover the affected area with a sterile Metalline burn compress. Apply the Metalline coated side to the burn and wrap loosely with a gauze bandage or a triangular bandage. The burn compress will not stick to the wound, is heat insulating and protects the wound from contamination.
If injuries are serious, consult a physician immediately.
