Remove/install boots on front axle shaft - AR33.30-P-0690CW

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove front axle shaft (1) MODEL 222 with ENGINE 278 with TRANSMISSION 722.96 AR33.30-P-0620LFX
    MODEL 204, 207, 212, 218 AR33.30-P-0620CWX 
    MODEL 211, 220 AR33.30-P-0620I
    MODEL 203 AR33.30-P-0620P
    MODEL 216, 221 AR33.30-P-0620SYZ
2 Clamp front axle shaft (1) in vise IMPORTANT Use soft vise jaws.  
3 Take off clamp (2)    
4.1 Remove clamp (4b) MODEL 204, 207, 212, 216, 218, 220, 221, 222  
4.2 Saw into seal boot cap (3b) on crimped part of joint hub (8), pull up or roll up crimped part and remove seal boot cap (3b) MODEL 203, 211  
      AR35.30-P-0661-01P
    NOTES
Do not damage joint hub (8) when sawing. The joint hub (8) must be replaced if this is not observed.
IMPORTANT Dismantling as with rear axle.
 
5.1 Cut open and remove seal boot (4a) MODEL 204, 207, 212, 216, 218, 220, 221, 222  
5.2 Cut open and remove seal boot (3a) with seal boot cap (3b) MODEL 203, 211  
6 Mark joint hub (8) relative to front axle shaft (1) IMPORTANT Before dismantling the ball joint all parts must be marked relative to each other. A different assignment during assembly can lead to noise or increased wear.  
7 Remove joint hub (8) from front axle shaft (1) IMPORTANT Hold front axle shaft (1) vertical.  
8 Mark bearing (6) relative to constant velocity joint hub (5)    
9 Remove bearing (6) from constant velocity joint hub (5) IMPORTANT Handle bearing (6) carefully. Do not replace bearing individual parts amongst each other.  
10 Remove retaining ring (7)    
11 Detach constant velocity joint hub (5) using suitable puller from front axle shaft (1)    
12 Check bearing (6) and joint hub (8) for wear IMPORTANT If damaged, replace front axle shaft (1).  
13 Clean all parts carefully IMPORTANT Do not remove the markings.  
INSTALLING Install     
14 Slide clamp (2) onto front axle shaft (1)    
15.1 Slide seal boot (4a) with clamp (4b) onto front axle shaft (1) MODEL 204, 207, 212, 216, 218, 220, 221, 222  
15.2 Slide seal boot (3a) with seal boot cap (3b) onto front axle shaft (1) MODEL 203, 211
IMPORTANT The seal boot (3a) and seal boot cap (3b) are preassembled and they must not be separated.
 
16 Mount constant velocity joint hub (5) onto front axle shaft (1) IMPORTANT Note installation position of constant velocity joint hub (5) relative to front axle shaft (1). Use a suitable plastic mallet and sleeve.  
17 Fit retaining clip (7) IMPORTANT Replace locking ring (7).  
18 Grease bearing (6) IMPORTANT Only use grease from the repair kit.

19 Slide bearing (6) onto constant velocity joint hub (5) IMPORTANT Hold front axle shaft (1) vertical. Note assignment of bearing (6) to constant velocity joint hub (5).  
20 Replace sealing ring (3c) of joint hub (8) MODEL 203, 211
NOTES
Do not apply grease or oil to the sealing ring (3c).
Otherwise the seal boot cap (3b) may turn on the joint hub (8).
 
21 Pack joint hub (8) half-full with grease IMPORTANT Only use grease from the repair kit.

22 Slide joint hub (8) onto front axle shaft (1) IMPORTANT Observe installation position of joint hub (8) relative to front axle shaft (1).  
23 Pack joint hub (8) with remaining grease IMPORTANT Only use quantity of grease from repair kit.

24.1 Slide seal boot (4a) with clamp (4b) onto joint hub (8) MODEL 204, 207, 212, 216, 218, 220, 221, 222
IMPORTANT Position raised bead of seal boot (4a) in radial groove of joint hub (8).
 
24.2 Slide seal boot (3a) with seal boot cap (3b) onto joint hub (8) MODEL 203, 211
IMPORTANT Pay attention to the sealing ring (3c) during assembly. Slide seal boot cap (3b) on as far as the end stop on joint hub (8). Check position of sealing ring (3c) in the groove of joint hub (8) (visual inspection in the gap between seal boot cap (3b) and joint hub (8)).
 
25.1 Mount seal boot (4a) with clamp (4b) onto joint hub (8) MODEL 204, 207, 212, 216, 218, 220, 221, 222  
25.2 Fix seal boot cap (3b) into position on joint hub (8) Model 203, 211  
      AR35.30-P-0661-01P
    IMPORTANT Assembly as for rear axle shaft. Crimp seal boot cap (3b) into groove of joint hub (8). The seal boot cap (3b) must not be able to be turned any more.
IMPORTANT The ball joint is sealed by the sealing ring (3c).
 
26 Align seal boot (3a, 4a) relative to front axle shaft (1) and position in radial groove of front axle shaft (1)    
27 Raise seal boot (3a, 4a) on front axle shaft (1) using suitable tool NOTES
Do not damage raised bead on seal boot (3a, 4a) or radial groove on front axle shaft (1). Any damage will result in leakage.
IMPORTANT Raising the seal boot (3a, 4a) induces a pressure compensation.
 
28 Mount clamp (2)    
29 Remove front axle shaft (1) from vise    
30 Install front axle shaft (1) MODEL 222 with ENGINE 278 with TRANSMISSION 722.96 AR33.30-P-0620LFX
    MODEL 204, 207, 212, 218 AR33.30-P-0620CWX
