Adjust wheel bearing play - AR33.20-P-0300SX

MODEL 212 except CODE M005 (4MATIC) 

MODEL 216 without 4MATIC

REMOVING Remove     
1 Ensure vehicle idle (bus idle) MODEL 221.095/195 AR54.10-P-2000-01SX
2 Remove front wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   MODEL 216, 221 AP40.10-P-4050SX
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   MODEL 212, 218 AP40.10-P-4050EW
3 Screw in wheel bolt (48a) opposite safety screw (9f) IMPORTANT Until the brake disk (6) is fixed  
4 Press brake pads back into brake caliper    
5 Pull off hub cap (9e) using removal and installation tool SPECIAL TOOL Removal and installation tool Fig 2
INSPECT Check     
6 Slacken hexagon socket head screw (9i) and lightly tighten clamping nut (9d) while rotating the front wheel hub (5) IMPORTANT To set up the wheel bearing.  
7 Loosen clamping nut (9d) slightly IMPORTANT A small amount of play must be noticeable.  
8 Mount dial indicator (022) with dial indicator holder (015) to brake disk (6) SPECIAL TOOL Dial indicator holder Fig 3

9 Adjust wheel bearing play by turning (arrow) the clamping nut (9d) in stages while pushing and pulling the brake disk (6) firmly back and forth NOTES
Incorrect measurement may result in the set wheel bearing play being too small.
This can then lead to wheel bearing damage.
IMPORTANT Do not twist or tilt front wheel hub (5) during the measurement. Correct measurement is only possible by pulling and pushing parallel to the wheel axle.		  
    MODEL 216, 221 wheel bearing play at front axle *BE33.20-P-1002-01A 
    MODEL 212, 218 wheel bearing play at front axle *BE33.20-P-1001-01F 
10 Tighten hexagon socket head screw (9i) and check wheel bearing play again TORQUE SPECIFICATION MODEL 212 Bolt for locknut on front-wheel mounting *BA33.20-P-1001-01O 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION MODEL 216, 221 Bolt for clamp nut used to adjust front-axle wheel bearing play *BA33.20-P-1001-01M 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION MODEL 218 Bolt for clamp nut to adjust front axle wheel bearing play *BA33.20-P-1001-01Q 
11 Remove the dial gauge (022) and its stand (015)    
INSTALLING Install     
12 Fill hub cap (9e) with high-temperature roller bearing grease    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS High temperature antifriction bearing grease (NLGI grade 2)   High temperature antifriction bearing grease (NLGI grade 2). See https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/index.php?language_id=1
13 Mount hub cover (9e) SPECIAL TOOL Removal and installation tool Fig 2
14 Remove wheel bolt (48a)    
15 Mount front wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   MODEL 216, 221 AP40.10-P-4050SX
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   MODEL 212, 218 AP40.10-P-4050EW
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
16.1 Press brake pedal several times in succession until a firm resistance is noticeable. MODEL 212, 216, 218, MODEL 221 (except 221.095/195)  
16.2 Depress brake pedal 10 times fully and quickly. MODEL 221.095/195
