Anchor the vehicle |
With powerful vehicles (> 200 kW), increase the axle load by at least 100 kg, e.g. with sandbags, for axle measurement.
The anchoring must be taut but not pull the vehicle down.

Anchorage equipment such as, e.g. tensioning straps, chains or pull-down devices are available as accessories from the manufacturer of the chassis dynamometer. |

Observe 30 to 40 °C intake air temperature and max. 120 °C oil temperature. |

Enter vehicle data into chassis dynamometer |
Use guideline values from the owner's manual, passenger car sales pocket book or registration certificate. There is no direct relationship to the flywheel mass output values.
It may be that the rated output is not reached during the test, this is because control mechanisms run in the background to protect the engine and drive train. To this end, a reference vehicle must be used to determine the guideline values.

Direct air flow of cooler blower to radiator and vehicle underside (oil pan, transmission, axles, exhaust, catalytic converter and tires) |
To avoid engine damage, make sure that the engine does not overheat.
Keep the cooler blower (minimum output 15, 000 m3
/h) approx. 1 meter from the vehicle.

Despite these measures it may be that the rated output is not reached; this is because additional control mechanisms run in the background to protect the engine and drive train. |

Check gear capacity |
Full-throttle tests are to be performed directly after the engine has been warmed up, when the temperature of the tires is still low, because temperature rises fastest during these tests.
Adhere to the user guidance for the chassis dynamometer.
Only carry out the test for as long as is required to read off the instrument clusters and store the data.
Observe coolant and engine oil temperature (max. 120 °C).
Engine output will decrease as the intake air temperature increases. For powerful engines, this decrease may be up to 20 kW. Maintain intake air temperature (30 to 40 °C) via OBD interface. Correction factor only occurs via the OBD interface.
Do not exceed engine oil temperature of 130 °C as this can lead to engine damage.
On vehicles fitted with catalytic converters, the test must be stopped immediately if combustion problems occur, otherwise damage to the catalytic converter cannot be ruled out. |

Print out measured values, store and evaluate |
Compare and evaluate the actual values with the specified guideline values in the operator's manual, passenger car sales pocket book or registration document or against the measured values of a reference vehicle.
The specified statements of power output in the registration document are determined in accordance with the EU guidelines and should not be directly compared with the measurement result.
Two retests are permitted after adjustment operations. Before any further testing can be done, a break (45 minutes) must be taken to allow the components to cool down. |
