Function requirements, general

Manual interior lights control in general

The manual interior lights control permits the interior illumination, reading illumination, vanity mirror illumination as well as the glove compartment illumination to be switched on and off by operating the relevant switch. The relevant components are actuated according to the equipment installed.

A distinction is made between the following variants:

The overhead control panel electronics are supplied with power through the front SAM control unit. When the switch is operated at the overhead control panel electronics, the voltage is switched through to the relevant component and the component is switched on or off. The overhead control panel control unit is a participant on the interior CAN. The status of each switch is directly read in by the overhead control panel control unit and sent to the front SAM control unit via interior CAN. The front SAM control unit receives it and sends the corresponding request back to the overhead control panel control unit via interior CAN. The overhead control panel control unit then actuates the corresponding components.

The manual interior lights control function encompasses the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for interior illumination

The following interior illumination components can be switched on or off manually by operating the switches that are located on the housing of the overhead control panel electronics:

The following interior illumination components can be switched on or off manually by operating the switches that are located on the housing of the overhead control panel control unit:

On vehicles with code (954) Avantgarde or code (955) Elegance, the front SAM control unit also actuates the following components of the footwell illumination:

Function sequence for reading illumination

The reading illumination serves to illuminate a defined area in front of the user, without having a distracting dazzling effect on the driver.

The following reading lamp components can be switched on or off manually by operating the switches:

Function sequence for vanity mirror illumination

The following components of the vanity mirror illumination can be manually switched on or off by folding the corresponding mirror cover open or closed:

The power supply for the left sun visor mirror lamp and the right sun visor mirror lamp is switched off by folding the mirror cover closed or when the vehicle is locked using the central locking system (CL [ZV]).

IMPORTANT To preserve the on-board electrical system battery (G1), the power supply is interrupted t = 30 min. following circuit 15 OFF.

Additional function requirements for glove compartment illumination

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 15 to the front SAM control unit via interior CAN.

Function sequence for glove compartment illumination

The glove compartment lamp switch is supplied with voltage by the front SAM control unit. Voltage is switched through to the glove compartment lamp by opening the glove compartment lid.
