IMPORTANT To rivet the timing chain (10) the following tooling is required from the SPECIAL TOOL rivet press tool: basic carrier (1G), mount A1 (4), thrust piece A2 (5), mount B1 (6) and thrust piece B2 (7).

IMPORTANT When carrying out work on the timing case recess, safeguard this with a clean rag to prevent items dropping down. Parts which have fallen into the timing case recess, must be removed.

  1. Insert riveting link pin (10N) into thrust piece A2 (5).

IMPORTANT Ensure correct seating of the riveting link pin (10N) in thrust piece A2 (5).

  2. Insert thrust piece A2 (5) with riveting link pin (10N) in thrust spindle (1D) of the basic carrier (1G).

IMPORTANT After inserting the thrust piece A2 (5) in the thrust spindle (1D) of the basic carrier (1G), check the riveting link pin (10N) for correct seating in the thrust piece A2 (5).

  3. Place rear chain link (10L) of the timing chain (10) in the mount A1 (4).

IMPORTANT Mount A1 (4) is not yet inserted in the basic carrier (1G).

IMPORTANT Only place timing chain (10) in the mount A1 (4) until the center link (10M) of the timing chain (10) can be mounted.

  4. Mount center link (10M).
  5. Insert front rear chain link (10G) of the open timing chain (10) in the mount A1 (4).

IMPORTANT The chain links (10G, 10L) and the center link (10M) are fixed and guided by sprung pins (4S) in the mount A1 (4).

  6. Insert mount A1 (4) with inserted timing chain (10) in the basic carrier (1G).

IMPORTANT Check for correct seating of the timing chain (10) in the mount A1 (4) and the mount A1 (4) in the basic carrier (1G).

  7. Place riveting link pin (10N) or thrust piece A2 (5) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) on basic carrier (1G) on timing chain (10) and check for correct positioning.
  8. Press riveting link pin (10N) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) into timing chain (10).

IMPORTANT In this way the spring-loaded pins (4S) are pushed back into the mount A1 (4).

  9. Turn back thrust spindle (1D) on basic carrier (1G).
  10. Detach basic carrier (1G) together with mount A1 (4) and thrust piece A2 (5) from timing chain (10).
  11. Modify grab handle (1H) for basic carrier (1G).

IMPORTANT The grab handle (1H) for the basic carrier (1G) must modified to avoid damage to the cylinder head and timing assembly.

  12. Insert outer link (10A) of the timing chain (10) in thrust piece A2 (5).

IMPORTANT Check outer link (10A) of timing chain (10) in thrust piece A2 (5) for correct seating.

  13. Insert thrust piece A2(5) with outer link (10A) in thrust spindle (1D) of basic carrier (1G).

IMPORTANT Ensure correct seating of the outer link (10A) in thrust piece A2 (5).

  14. Insert mount B1 (6) in basic carrier (1G).

IMPORTANT Check mount B1 (6) for correct seating in basic carrier (1G).

  15. Insert timing chain (10) in mount B1 (6) and basic carrier (1G).

IMPORTANT The open ends of the riveting link pin (10N) must point towards the thrust piece A2 (5).

IMPORTANT Ensure correct positioning of the timing chain (10) in the mount B1 (6).

  16. Place outer link (10A) or thrust piece A2 (5) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) on basic carrier (1G) on timing chain (10) and check for correct positioning.
  17. Press outer link (10A) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) on timing chain (10).

IMPORTANT The riveting link pin (10N) must still be able to move pressing on of the outer link (10A).

  18. Turn back thrust spindle (1D) in basic carrier (1G).

IMPORTANT The thrust spindle (1D) must be turned back in the basic carrier (1G) until the thrust piece A2 (5) can be removed.

  19. Remove thrust piece A2 (5) from the thrust spindle (1D) of the basic carrier (1G).
  20. Insert riveting die B2(7) into the thrust spindle (1D) of the basic carrier (1G).
  21. Lay on riveting die B2(7) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) on the riveting link pin (10N) and check correct position.

IMPORTANT Ensure correct positioning of the timing chain (10) in the mount B1 (6).

  22. Rivet riveting link pin (10N) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) using the riveting die B2(7).

IMPORTANT Using the riveting die B2(7) both bolts (10B) of the riveting link pin (10N) once.

  23. Detach basic carrier (1G) together with mount B1 (6) and riveting die B2(7) from timing chain (10).
