Observe identification of camshaft bearing cap.
Camshaft bearing caps are asymmetrical. Ensure exactly fitting assembly.
Removing
- Remove exhaust camshaft bearing caps (A1, A3, A5).
- Loosen bolts by 0.5 revolutions on exhaust camshaft bearing caps (A2, A4).
- Remove bolts of exhaust camshaft bearing caps (A2, A4) evenly and remove exhaust camshaft bearing caps (A2, A4).
Secure timing chain against falling down Secure timing case recess with clean rag against falling small parts. Parts which have fallen into the timing case recess must be removed to avoid engine damage.
- Slip exhaust camshaft (1) out of timing chain and remove.
- Remove intake camshaft bearing caps (E1, E4, E5).
- Loosen bolts on intake camshaft bearing caps (E2, E3) by 0.5 revolutions.
- Remove bolts of intake camshaft bearing caps (E2, E3) evenly and remove intake camshaft (2).
- Slip intake camshaft (2) out of timing chain and remove.
Install
Mount exhaust camshaft bearing caps (A1, A2, A3, A4, A5) and intake camshaft bearing caps (E1, E2, E3, E4, E5) in reverse order at the same point. Pay attention to correct position of drag levers in order to avoid drag levers tilting which can lead to damage to the camshafts.
Oil compensation elements in camshaft bearing points and check ease of movement of compensation elements.
- Insert intake camshaft (2), without jamming it, in basic position of top dead center [TDC] with tip (3) of intake camshaft (2) upwards in the fitted bearing and put on timing chain.
- Mount intake camshaft bearing caps (E1), screw in bolts evenly and install.
- Mount intake camshaft bearing caps (E2, E3, E4, E5), screw in bolts evenly and install.
- Tighten bolts of intake camshaft bearing caps (E3) evenly until the intake camshaft bearing cap (E3) abuts the contact surface.
- Tighten bolts of intake camshaft bearing cap (E3) with 1st stage
.
- Mount intake camshaft bearing caps (E2, E4, E5) in sequence, screw in bolts evenly and tighten with 1st stage
.
It is essential to maintain the sequence.
- Tighten bolts of intake camshaft bearing caps (E1) evenly until the intake camshaft bearing cap (E1) abuts the contact surface.
- Tighten bolts of intake camshaft bearing caps (E1, E2, E3, E4, E5) in sequence with 2nd stage
.
It is essential to maintain the sequence.
- Insert exhaust camshaft (1), without jamming it, in basic position of top dead center (OT) with tip (3) of exhaust camshaft (1) upwards in the fitted bearing and put on timing chain.
- Mount exhaust camshaft bearing caps (A1), screw in bolts evenly and install.
- Mount exhaust camshaft bearing caps (A2, A3, A4, A5), screw in bolts evenly and install.
- Tighten bolts of exhaust camshaft bearing caps (A4) evenly until the exhaust camshaft bearing cap (A4) abuts the contact surface.
- Tighten bolts of exhaust camshaft bearing cap (A4) with 1st stage
.
- Mount exhaust camshaft bearing caps (A2, A5, A3) in sequence, screw in bolts evenly and tighten with 1st stage
.
It is essential to maintain the sequence.
- Tighten bolts of exhaust camshaft bearing caps (A1) evenly until the exhaust camshaft bearing cap (A1) abuts the contact surface.
