The template (9) may only be attached for a removed exhaust camshaft (1) and intake camshaft (2).
Damage can occur otherwise to the pulse wheel (1A, 2E) of the exhaust and intake camshaft (1, 2).

- Clean the pulse wheel (1A, 2E) of the exhaust camshaft and intake camshaft (1, 2).
The pulse wheels (1A, 2E) must be absolutely oil and grease free.
The template (9) must be selected for the respective engine variant.
The engine variant is visible on the respective
template (9).

For the engine variant M152 the
template (9) must be turned to attach markings for the respective side.
Place template (9) on the pulse wheel (1A) of the exhaust camshaft (1).
The template (9) must noticeably engage in the pulse wheel (1A) of the exhaust camshaft (1).
- Mark pulse wheel (1A) for the exhaust camshaft (1).
Select the respective marking window on the
template (9) and mark pulse wheel (1A) of the exhaust camshaft (1) using a suitable pen.
False marking of the pulse wheel (1A) will cause wrong assembly and therefore engine damage.
Remove template (9) from pulse wheel (1A) of the exhaust camshaft (1) and check the marking.
Check the marking and repeat operation step 3, 4 if necessary.
Place template (9) on the pulse wheel (2E) of the intake camshaft (2).
- Mark pulse wheel (2E) for the intake camshaft (2).
Select the respective marking window on the
template (9) and mark pulse wheel (2E) of the intake camshaft (2) using a suitable pen.
False marking of the pulse wheel (2E) will cause wrong assembly and therefore engine damage.
Remove template (9) from pulse wheel (2E) of the intake camshaft (2) and check the marking.
Check the marking and repeat operation step 6, 7 if necessary.
- Perform markings on the opposite cylinder bank analog to the work procedure.
