LFD Rivet timing chain - AR05.10-P-7601-02LFD

TIMING CHAIN, CHAIN TENSIONER

IMPORTANT The following special tools are needed: SPECIAL TOOL case, SPECIAL TOOL rivet press tool, SPECIAL TOOL assembly inserts

NOTES When carrying out work on timing case recess or on cylinder head, protect this with a clean rags to prevent small items dropping down. Parts which have fallen into the timing case recess or the cylinder head must be removed, otherwise engine damage can occur.

  1. Absolutely remove assembly insert from camshaft sprocket of the left exhaust camshaft (4) to pull in the timing chain (2).

    IMPORTANT The assembly insert only serves as an assembly aid and is not suitable for use when the engine is running.

  2. Insert new riveted link (1) into the ends of the new timing chain (2).

  3. Place assembly insert (8) with the digit F12 into the rivet press tool (5) and fix with a mounting screw.
  4. Insert movable thrust piece (9) with digit D14 into the rivet press tool (5).

  5. Place outer plate (10) into thrust piece (9) with digit D14.

    IMPORTANT The outer plate (10) is retained magnetically.

  6. Place rivet press tool (5) in such away that the spacer bushing of the assembly insert (8) lies on the rolls of the timing chain (2).

    IMPORTANT Ensure that screw/bolts on new rivet element (1) are flush with hole on the new outer link (10).

  7. Screw in thrust spindle at rivet press tool (5) until solid resistance is present.

    IMPORTANT When turning in the thrust spindle, ensure that the pins of the new riveted link (1) are led into the holes of the new outer plate (10).

  8. Slightly unscrew the thrust spindle and remove rivet press tool (5).

  9. Turn over movable thrust piece (9) with digit D14 on the riveted profile (arrow).

  10. Place rivet press tool (5) exactly above center of a pin of the new rivet element pin (1).
  11. Tighten thrust spindle on rivet press tool (5) with specified tightening torque. TORQUE SPECIFICATION

    IMPORTANT The pins on the rivet element (1) are riveted.

  12. Slightly unscrew thrust spindle, position rivet press tool (5) at other pin on the new rivet element (1) and rivet in the same way.
  13. Take off rivet press tool (5).

  14. Check riveting (arrows), re-rivet if required.
  15. Remove hold-down tool on right cylinder head.
  16. Disconnect cable tie on camshaft sprocket of the left exhaust camshaft (4).
