To pull in the timing chain the following tooling is required: case and assembly link (01).

1. Cover over timing case slot with a clean rag.

   The timing case recess must be secured against parts which are falling down. Parts which have fallen into the timing case recess, must be removed.

2. Connect new timing chain (2) and old timing chain (1) together using the assembly link (01).

   Fit retainer on assembly link (01) in the direction opposite to that in which the timing chain is drawn; otherwise it could get jammed on the slide rails and come off when the timing chain is drawn.

3. Remove rags from timing case recess.

   Otherwise, they could get pulled into the timing case recess when the engine is cranked.

4. Turn crankshaft slowly in the direction of engine rotation (arrow) and draw in the new timing chain (2) until the ends of the new timing chain (2) can be connected.

   Pull out the freed up ends of the old timing chain (1) evenly, according to the pulling in of the new timing chain (2) (arrows).

5. Cover over timing case slot with a clean rag.

   The timing case recess must be secured against parts which are falling down. Parts which have fallen into the timing case slot must be removed.

6. Detach assembly link (01), and separate old timing chain (1) from new timing chain (2).

   The assembly link (01) must be removed. The assembly link (01) is only an aid for assembly and is not suitable for engine operation.
