The following special tools are needed: case, assembly inserts and hold-down tool

Parts which have fallen into the timing case recess or in the cylinder head must be removed.

Engine damage could occur otherwise.

1. Cover timing case recess and cylinder head with clean rag.
2. Check hold-down tool (4) on the right cylinder head of the intake camshaft side for correct seating.
3. Connect end link of the new timing chain (2) and old timing chain (1) with the assembly connecting link (3.1), the assembly link (3.2) and the assembly locking element (3.3).

   Ensure that assembly locking element (3.3) is seated correctly.

   The oil holes (5) of the new timing chain (2) must point outwards.

4. Remove rag from timing case recess and cylinder head.

   This can be drawn into the timing case recess otherwise when cranking the engine.

5. Slowly turn engine at center bolt on crankshaft in direction of engine rotation, uniformly pull in new timing chain (2) and simultaneously guide out old timing chain (1).

   The basic position of the engine must be set up if there is skipping of the new (2) or old timing chain (1) on the camshaft sprocket or on the crankshaft gear.

   Engine damage could occur otherwise.

   Turn engine until the end links of the new timing chain (2) can be connected to the right intake camshaft sprocket.

   Helper required.

6. Cover timing case recess and cylinder head with clean rag.
7. Remove assembly connecting link (3.1), assembly link (3.2) and assembly locking element (3.3) and place old timing chain (1) to one side.
8. Connect end links of the new timing chain (2) provisionally with the assembly connecting link (3.1), the assembly link (3.2) and the assembly locking element (3.3).
9. Remove rag from timing case recess and cylinder head.

   This can be drawn into the timing case recess otherwise when cranking the engine.

10. Slowly turn the engine at the center bolt of the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation until the end links of the new timing chain (2) can be riveted to the left exhaust camshaft sprocket.
11. Cover timing case recess and cylinder head with clean rag.
12. Fix the new timing chain (2) with cable tie in place at a suitable location on the left exhaust camshaft sprocket.
13. Remove assembly locking element (3.3), assembly link (3.2) and assembly connecting link (3.1).

    The assembly locking element (3.3), assembly link (3.2) and assembly connecting link (3.1) must be replaced by a rivet link. They are only intended as an assembly aid and are not suitable for engine operation.
