NOTES When working on the timing case recess this should be secured against falling small parts using clean rags.

Parts which have fallen into the timing case recess, must be removed. Engine damage could occur otherwise.

  1. Bind together and secure the new timing chain (2) and old timing chain (1) using an assembly insert (3).

IMPORTANT The bores (arrow) of the new timing chain (2) must point outwards.

  2. Draw in new timing chain (2). Slowly rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine until the ends of the new timing chain (2) can be connected.

NOTES Always keep new timing chain (2) meshed with the camshaft sprocket. The new timing chain (2) can skip otherwise and the timing will be altered.

Pull out end of old timing chain evenly as it becomes free, to match the new timing chain (2) being drawn in. The old timing chain can otherwise skip on the crankshaft gear.
