	Checking
	Risk of injury caused by fingers being pinched or crushed when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, liftgates or sliding roof	Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts.	AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
		The locking system of the engine hood should not be oiled or greased. The engine hood hinges are maintenance free. Replace system if hard to move or defective, do not attempt to free up or repair.
1	Open engine hood
	Opening engine hood, moving to upright position and closing		AR88.40-P-1000EW
2	Check all components of the closing system for wear, cracks, deformation and damage	Replace component even when they are only slightly damaged.
3	Allow engine hood to fall freely into engine hood locks from a max. height of 150 mm (1)	The latches (1a) must engage securely in the engine hood catches (1) to ensure correct locking.
4	Check engine hood lock	Grasp the engine hood with your hand from the front and pull with a firm jerk to check the engine hood is locked properly. In the event of function impairments, replace engine hood catches (1) with notches (1a).
5	Unlock engine hood and check retaining hooks (2) for proper function	For this purpose grasp engine hood with your hand from the front and pull with a firm jerk to check arresting of the safety hook (2). When doing this do not touch release lever (3) of safety hook (2).
6	Check safety hook (2) and release lever (3) for wear, cracks, deformation and damage	When gently closing the engine hood, the safety hook (2) must latch automatically into the lock pawl (2a). Replace components even with slight defects or function impairments.
7	Close engine hood
	Opening engine hood, moving to upright position and closing		AR88.40-P-1000EW
