MODEL 212 with CODE 810 (Sound system)
Shown on model 212.0
Location
The sound system amplifier control unit is located on a bracket in the trunk on the left sidewall behind the paneling.
Tasks
- Receive signals
- Decoding signals
- Supporting and amplifying signals
- Transmitting signals
Receive signals
The input factors are read in via:
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Direct lines
Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
The sound system amplifier control system is a subscriber of the MOST and receives, for example, the Digital Transmission Content Protection (DTCP) copy-protected audio signals from the following components:
- Audio unit
- Tuner unit (A90/4) (with CODE 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio), with CODE 537 (Digital radio) or with CODE 865 (TV tuner), as of 2.3.15)
- TV tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1) (with CODE 863 (Digital/analog TV tuner), up to 31.5.12)
- Digital TV tuner (A90/3) (with CODE 865 (TV tuner), up to 1.3.15)
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3) (with CODE 537 (Digital radio), up to 1.3.15)
- Satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) control unit (N87/5) (with CODE 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio), as of 1.6.10 up to 1.3.15)
- SDAR/high-definition tuner control unit (N87/8) (with CODE 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio), up to 31.5.10)
- Media interface control unit (N125/1) (with CODE 518 (Media Interface), up to 1.3.15)
Direct lines
The following signals are read in via a direct line:
- Power supply via circuit 31 and circuit 30g
- Audio mute (with CODE 348 (Emergency call/assist system), with CODE 359 (TELEAID emergency call system) or with CODE 350 (Ecall Europe emergency call system, Gen. 2))
- Electrical wake-up
Decoding signals
The sound system amplifier control unit decodes DTCP copy-protected audio signals on the basis of DSP technology (digital signal processing).
In audio applications, digital signal processing (DSP) means processing audio tracks using mathematical algorithms with the goal of improving the acoustic sound properties.
Supporting and amplifying signals
- Supporting surround sound (Logic 7)
- Supports two stereo entertainment channels and three announcement channels (e.g. for voice output of navigation instructions, etc.)
- Amplifying decoded audio signals
Transmitting signals
The sound system amplifier control unit actuates the following components via direct lines:
- Rear bass speaker amplifier (N40/9) (line out (+ and -) and remote)
- Center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/55) (model 212.2)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57) (model 212.0)
- Left front door sound system bass speaker (H4/64)
- Right front door sound system bass speaker (H4/65)
- Left front door sound system tweeter (H4/68)
- Right front door sound system tweeter (H4/69)
- Left rear door sound system tweeter (H4/70)
- Right rear door sound system tweeter (H4/71)
- Left front door sound system midrange and bass speaker (H4/72)
- Right front door sound system midrange and bass speaker (H4/73)
- Left rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/80)
- Right rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/81)
Function
The sound system amplifier control unit is actuated via the audio equipment. The audio equipment also provides all of the menus for user guidance.
Moreover, the following subfunctions are available:
- Software download
- Diagnosis
Software download
The update is conducted using the DVD drive of the audio equipment with a CD or a DVD.
Diagnosis
The diagnosis of the sound system amplifier control unit is performed using the Keyword 2000 protocol.
