Inspecting cylinders with a light probe - AR01.00-P-0200CD

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by fuel spraying out at high pressure Keep all ignition sources out of hazard area. Do not carry out any work on system when it is pressurized. AS07.16-Z-0001-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove transmitter key IMPORTANT On vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go, press Start-Stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off.  
2 Open engine hood ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 221  
MODEL 166 with ENGINE 651 AR88.40-P-1000GQ
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 172.4 AR88.40-P-1000V
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 204.3, 207, 212 AR88.40-P-1000EW
3 Remove cylinder head cover trim ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 221  
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 204, 207 AR01.20-P-5014-02CD
4 Remove fuel injectors   AR07.16-P-1000CD
5.1 Move piston of cylinder to be checked with counterholder to the BDC ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 221
without CODE B03 (ECO start/stop function)
IMPORTANT Rotate engine at the crankshaft in direction of rotation. Do not turn engine against the direction of rotation of engine.		  
SPECIAL TOOL Counterholder Fig 2
5.2 Move piston of cylinder to be checked using a suitable tool to the BDC ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 221
with CODE B03 (ECO start/stop function)
IMPORTANT Rotate engine at the crankshaft in direction of rotation. Do not turn engine against the direction of rotation of engine.		  
6 Connect up light projector (1) and insert flexible endoscope (2) through bore for injectors into cylinder Endoscope (cold light)  
INSPECT Check     
7 Check cylinder barrel for scoring    
IMPORTANT General information on inspecting cylinder walls   AH01.00-P-0300-01A
IMPORTANT If there is 'scoring' (wear to the cylinder), the cylinder wall has become rough and honing marks are no longer visible. In case of doubt, remove cylinder head.
↓
Remove cylinder head		  
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 204, 207, 212, 218, 221 AR01.30-P-5800CD
8 Inspect remaining cylinders following the same procedure    
9 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
10 Check fuel system for leaks with engine running
