Location
The electrical power steering control unit is attached to the electric power steering actuator motor.
Task
The electrical power steering control unit has the following tasks:
- Reading in of sensors and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
- Transmission of requests/information
Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
Direct line
The following sensor is read in via a direct line:
- Electric power steering torque sensor
Chassis CAN
The following signals are read in over the chassis CAN:
- Torque request for Steering Assist and wheel speeds, from Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) (except CODE 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS), except CODE 990 (AMG vehicles), except hybrid) or from Premium Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/7) (with CODE 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS) or with CODE 990 (AMG vehicles), except hybrid) or from regenerative braking system control unit (N30/6) (with hybrid)
- Status of "Drivetrain operational" signal and engine speed, from ME-SFI control unit (N3/10) (with gasoline engine) or from CDI control unit (N3/9) (with diesel engine)
- Steering angle and steering speed, recorded by the steering column tube module control unit (N80) through the steering angle sensor (N49)
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors which are read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor, the relevant components are then actuated and requests/information are output.
Actuation of components
The following component is actuated directly:
- Electric power steering actuator motor
Transmission of requests/information
The following requests/information are sent over the chassis CAN:
- Request to display warning message to instrument cluster (A1)
- Steering torque and steering angle speed, to Electronic Stability Program control unit (except CODE 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS), except CODE 990 (AMG vehicles), except hybrid) or to Premium Electronic Stability Program control unit (with CODE 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS) or with CODE 990 (AMG vehicles), except hybrid) or to regenerative braking system control unit (with hybrid)
- Steering assistance status
