Location 

The trunk lid control unit is located in the center below the rear shelf in the trunk.

Location 

The liftgate control unit is fastened in the cargo area below the cover.

Task 

The trunk lid control unit or liftgate control unit has the following tasks:

• Reading in of sensors and signals 
• Evaluation of input factors 
• Actuation of components 

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

• Direct line 
• Interior CAN (CAN B) 

Direct line 

The signals from the following components are read via direct lines:

• Trunk lid position sensor (B24/16) (model 212.0/1)
• Liftgate control Halls sensor (M51/3b1) (model 212.2)
• Liftgate control position sensor (M51/3b2) (model 212.2)

Evaluation of input factors 

The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the affected components are then actuated.

Interior CAN 

The following signals are read in over the interior CAN:

• Status of driver trunk lid/liftgate control button (S15/3) by left front door control unit (N69/1)
• Status of trunk lid rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1) (model 212.0/1) or liftgate rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1) (model 212.2) by rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2)
• Status of trunk lid control button (S62/36) (model 212.0/1) or trunk lid control button (S62/36) (model 212.2) by rear SAM control unit
• Status of liftgate external operation switch status (S88/8) (model 212.2) by rear SAM control unit
• Access authorization for transmitter key (A8/1) via FM 1, AM, ZV and KEYLESS-GO antenna amplifier (A2/18) (model 212.2)
• Vehicle speed signal by instrument cluster (A1)
• Circuit 15 status from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73)

Actuation of components 

The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:

• Direct line 
• Interior CAN 

Direct line 

The following components are actuated via a direct line:

• Trunk lid control electric motor (M51/3m1) (model 212.0/1) or liftgate control electric motor (M51/3m1) (model 212.2)
• Liftgate control warning buzzer (H4/60) (model 212.2)
• Liftgate control magnetic clutch (M51/3y1) (model 212.2)

Interior CAN 

The following component is actuated via the interior CAN:

• Trunk lid lock element (M14/31) (model 212.0/1) or liftgate lock element (M14/31) (model 212.2) by rear SAM control unit
