The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.

- Scribe separation points on outer side longitudinal member (1) (areas A, B and C).
Determine separation points according to degree of damage (areas A and B). Cut outer side longitudinal member (1) between upper and lower embossment of plane surface (area C).
- Cut outer side longitudinal member (1) at separation points (areas A, B and C).
Do not make the cuts too deep. Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Expose spot welds on outer side longitudinal member (1) (areas D, E and F).
- Cut out spot welds on outer side longitudinal member (1) (areas D, E and F).
- Remove damaged outer side longitudinal member (1).
- Model 117, 156, 176, 242, 246 Drill 10 mm wax holes in B-pillar (2) (areas G).

- Model 117, 156, 176, 242, 246 Deburr drill holes (areas G).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in the cross-hatched inner C-pillar sidewall.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot welding flanges with zinc dust paint.
