Separate A-pillar outer section - AR63.20-P-1102-01EW
MODEL 212, 218
In principle replacement parts required for this repair can be replaced completely. Ensure that the standard joining and bonding connections are observed or are coordinated with the responsible Daimler departments in individual cases. On cut panels also ensure that the joints to the present paneling are accessible for later cavity preservation and that the minimum distance between foam-protected areas and connection points is approx. 100 mm.
- Scribe separation lines on A-pillar outer section (1) and cut (areas A and B).
Scribe separation line at height of A-pillar reinforcement connection (area A, arrow). Do not damage components below.
- Cut out spot welds on A-pillar outer section (1) and cut out (areas C and D).
Cut through two sheet metal thicknesses (area D).
- Heat A-pillar outer section (1) in crosshatched areas.
Only on model 212. Crosshatched areas are glued.
- Remove damaged A-pillar outer section (1)
- Scribe separation line on A-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (area E).
Measure dimension B from edge of A-pillar reinforcement connection (2). Do not damage components below.
- Expose spot welds on A-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut out (areas F and G).
- Heat A-pillar reinforcement (2) in crosshatched areas.
Only on model 212. Crosshatched areas are not glued.
- Remove damaged A-pillar reinforcement (2).
- Sand connection surfaces down to bare metal in the crosshatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides. Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (area Z). Area Z only on model 212.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not apply zinc dust paint to bonding surfaces. Adhesion dust paint to bonding surfaces. Adhesion Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
