The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle on MODEL 218.9 and must be performed analogously on the right side in the event of damage.

1. Scribe separation line on rear fender (1) at Y-markings (area A).
2. Mark separation point on rear fender (1) (area B).

   Select connection point yourself.

3. Mark separation point on rear fender (1) (area C).

   Transfer separation from new part.

4. Separate rear fender (1) (areas A, B and C).

   Do not make the cuts too deep.

   Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

5. Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas D, D1, E, F, G and H).
6. Separate adhesive bead between outer rear wheel well and rear fender (1) (area I).

   Glue rear fender (1) to rear wheelhouse from outside.

7. Remove rear fender (1).
8. Remove remaining adhesive material in area of outer rear wheel well (area J).

   A maximum of 2 mm of adhesive residue may be left Remove loose adhesive material.

9. Repair bare parts with touchup applicator.
10. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in the cross-hatched areas.

    Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

11. Remove grinding and drilling chips with wet/dry vacuum cleaner.
12. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (area J).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
