Remove C-pillar - AR63.20-P-0500-01ES

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 33 other vehicles, including the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG, 2016 Mercedes-Benz E400, 2016 Mercedes-Benz E350, 2016 Mercedes-Benz E300, and 2016 Mercedes-Benz E250. IMPORTANT In principle replacement parts required for this repair can be replaced completely. Ensure that the standard joining and bonding connections are observed or are coordinated with the responsible Daimler departments in individual cases. On cut panels also ensure that the joints to the present paneling are accessible for later cavity preservation and that the minimum distance between foam-protected areas and connection points is approx. 100 mm.

  1. Scribe separating point on C-pillar paneling (1) (area D).

    IMPORTANT Measure dimensions a and b from rear fender cut (Y-markings, arrows).

  2. Cut C-pillar paneling (1) on separating point (area D).

    IMPORTANT Do not damage outer C-pillar below.

  3. Expose spot welds on C-pillar paneling (1) and cut out (area M).
  4. Remove C-pillar paneling (1).

  6. Expose spot welds on outer C-pillar (2) and cut out (areas A, B and K).
  7. Scribe separating points on outer C-pillar (2) and cut (area E).

    IMPORTANT Measure dimensions c and d from C-pillar paneling cut.

  8. Heat outer C-pillar (2) in cross-hatched area.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched area is bonded.

  9. Remove damaged outer C-pillar (2).

  11. Bend open sheet metal lug on inner C-pillar (3) (arrow).
  12. Expose spot welds on inner C-pillar (3) and cut out (areas C, G, I and D1).
  13. Scribe separating points on inner C-pillar (3) and cut (area F and H).

    IMPORTANT Measure dimensions f from outer C-pillar cut (2). Measure dimension g from bead as shown.

  15. Heat inner C-pillar (3) in cross-hatched area.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched area is bonded.

  16. Remove damaged inner C-pillar (3).

  18. Sand connection surfaces down to bare metal in the cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (area N).

  19. Remove shavings and drill chips.
  20. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES To prevent adhesion problems, do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint.
