Prepare B-pillar for installation - AR63.20-P-1350-07EW

  1. Scribe separation points on outer B-pillar (1) (areas S, T and U).

    IMPORTANT Transfer dimensions from vehicle.

  2. Separate outer B-pillar (1) from separation points (areas S, T and U).

  4. Scribe separation point on outer B-pillar (1) (area X).

    IMPORTANT On vehicles with removed panoramic roof, the separation point or cut in the X area is not required.

  5. Separate outer B-pillar (1) from cutting point (area X).

    IMPORTANT On vehicles with removed panoramic roof, the separation point or cut in the X area is not required.

  6. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on outer B-pillar (1) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.

  7. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint to prevent adhesion problems (areas V and W).

    IMPORTANT Observe pre-treatment of bonding surfaces.

  9. Drill out spot welds on inner B-pillar (2) (areas A, B, Y and Z).

    IMPORTANT Drill out spot welds in areas A, B and Z Only when installing inner B-pillar (2) without side longitudinal member (3).

  10. Cut out spot welds in inner B-pillar (2) (areas Y1 , Y2 , Z1 and Z2 ).

    IMPORTANT Cut out spot welds on inside of inner B-pillar (2).

    IMPORTANT Cut out spot welds in areas Z1 and Z2 only when installing inner B-pillar (2) without side longitudinal member (3).

  11. Heat inner B-pillar (2) in crosshatched areas (areas C and D).

    IMPORTANT Only when installing inner B-pillar (2) without side longitudinal member (3) (area D).

    IMPORTANT Crosshatched areas are bonded.

  12. Remove inner B-pillar (2).

  14. Grind inner B-pillar (2) down to bare metal in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.

    IMPORTANT Only when installing inner B-pillar (2) without side longitudinal member (3) (area H).

  15. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint to prevent adhesion problems (areas E, F, G and H).

    IMPORTANT Only when installing inner B-pillar (2) without side longitudinal member (3) (area H).

    IMPORTANT Observe pre-treatment of bonding surfaces.

  16. IMPORTANT Perform following steps 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 only when installing inner B-pillar (2) with side longitudinal member (3).

  17. Scribe separation points on inner B-pillar (2) with side longitudinal member (3) at Y-markings (arrows) (areas I and J).
  18. Cut inner B-pillar (2) with side longitudinal member (3) at separation points (areas I and J).
  19. Remove inner B-pillar (2) with side longitudinal member (3)

  21. Grind mating surfaces on inner B-pillar (2) with side longitudinal member (3) down to bare metal in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.

  22. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint to prevent adhesion problems (areas K and L).

    IMPORTANT Observe pre-treatment of bonding surfaces.
