Install and weld in inner C-pillar side wall - AR63.10-P-0700-03EW

  1. SPECIAL TOOL Set up side portal frame.

    IMPORTANT Observe setup plans.

  2. Install inner C-pillar (2), reinforcement (3) and rear fender, fit and fix in place with straightening bracket.
  3. Remove rear fender.
  4. Center punch rivet holes on inner C-pillar (2) (area M).
  5. Drill Ø 6.7 mm rivet holes in inner C-pillar (2) (area M).
  6. Remove straightening bracket, inner C-pillar (2) and reinforcement (3).
  7. Deburr rivet holes on inner C-pillar (2) on both sides.

  8. Apply 2-component adhesive on body in crosshatched area.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

    IMPORTANT Refer to the manufacturer's information for the curing and working times of 2-component adhesive.

  9. Install inner C-pillar (2), fit and fix in place.
  10. Rivet inner C-pillar (2) with Ø 6.5 X 12.5 steel/steel blind rivets (area M).
  11. Inner C-pillar (2) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas P, Q, R, S, T and X).
  12. Install reinforcement (3), fit and fix in place.
  13. Reinforcement (3) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas N and O).
  14. Inner C-pillar (2) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (area W).

    IMPORTANT Weld inert gas welds in intervals, allow to cool down in between to minimize heat distortion (area W).

    IMPORTANT Grind inert gas welds on spot weld flanges down flat (area W).

  15. Bend open sheet metal lug on outer rear wheel well (arrow).
  16. Clean weld joints.

    Dimensions: 

  17. Install outer C-pillar (1), fit and fix in place.
  18. Scribe rivet holes on outer C-pillar (1) (area Z).
  19. Center punch rivet holes on outer C-pillar (1) (area Z).
  20. Remove foam parts from old part and install on vehicle (area A).

    IMPORTANT For this purpose transfer position of foam parts to vehicle and apply sealant in this area. Fix removed foam parts in place, apply sealant on both sides all the way around and spread with brush or spatula.

  21. Drill Ø 6, 7 mm rivet holes on outer C-pillar (1) with BTR Usibor drill bit (area Z).

    Drill bits and milling cutters for high-strength steels (USIBOR)

  22. Remove outer C-pillar (1)
  23. Deburr rivet holes on outer C-pillar (1) on both sides.
  24. Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.

    IMPORTANT Always replace damaged foam parts which can no longer be used. New foam parts are available only from the responsible Daimler departments.

  25. Apply sealant to foam parts (area A).
  26. Install outer C-pillar (1), fit and fix in place.
  27. Rivet outer C-pillar (1) with Ø 6.5 X 12.5 steel/steel blind rivets (area Z).
  28. Outer C-pillar (1) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas U1 , U2 , V and Y1 ).
  29. Outer C-pillar (1) SHIELDED GAS PLUG WELD (area Y).

    IMPORTANT Grind inert gas plug welds on spot weld flanges down flat (area Y).

  30. Clean weld joints.
  31. Remove shavings and drill chips.
