Measure and adjust clearance - AR27.51-P-7229W

MEASURING Measure     
1 Place multidisk brake or multidisk clutch in a lever press NOTES Cleanliness is essential when working on the transmission
Otherwise, even the smallest foreign particle in the hydraulic components of the transmission can lead to malfunctions or a total failure of the transmission.
IMPORTANT For cleaning, use lint-free cleaning cloth. Chamois leathers are the most suitable. Workshop press (stationary)		  
2 Put drifts of the thrust device on the end disk (105) NOTES Position the drifts on the end disk (105) so that slipping off during the pressing process is prevented.
Otherwise the end disk (105) may be damaged.

3 Operate lever press NOTES Note the markings (M1 to M4).
Otherwise the disks and plate carrier will be damaged if the pressing force is exceeded.
IMPORTANT The markings (M1 to M4) indicate the required pressing force.
For multidisk brake B1, the marking (M1) applies.
For multidisk brake B2, the marking (M3) applies.
For multidisk brake B3, the marking (M1) applies.
For multidisk clutch K1, the marking (M2) applies.
For multidisk clutch K2, the marking (M4) applies.
For multidisk clutch K3, the marking (M1) applies.		  
4 Put on parallel support SPECIAL TOOL Parallel rest Figure
5 Determine distance between the parallel gauge upper edge and the end disk (105) using depth gauge (T) IMPORTANT Determine distance at two points of the circumference of the end disk (105) and note the mean value as dimension "a".  
6 Move back lever press    
7 Press end disk (105) against the retaining ring (105s) NOTES Attach the tool (e.g. screwdriver) carefully between end disk (105) and first friction plate (arrow). Do not twist tool.
The disks will otherwise be bent and the friction lining damaged.		  
8 Determine distance between the parallel gauge upper edge and the end disk (105) using depth gauge (T) IMPORTANT Before the clearance measurement the disks must be immersed in automatic transmission fluid for at least one hour so that the friction lining can swell up.
Determine distance at two points of the circumference of the end disk (105) and note the mean value as dimension "a".
The difference from measurements "a" and "b" gives the clearance.		  
  Adjust clearance     
9 Remove retaining ring (105s) and determine its thickness    
10 Adjust clearance; to do this, install retaining ring (105s) of appropriate thickness. Retaining rings (105s) are available in a graduation of 0.3 mm.
