- Clamp shock absorber in vice with piston rod pointing vertically downwards.
- Drill hole in shock absorber tube using 5 mm bit approx. 20 mm from bottom of shock absorber (black arrow) and on Fichtel & Sachs shock absorbers actuate piston rod several times to pump out oil.
- On Bilstein shock absorbers press piston rod in to stop and pull back out.
- Then drill a second hole approx. 60 mm from the bottom of the shock absorber.
The second hole located 60 mm from the bottom of the shock absorber should not be drilled first. If the shock absorbers are drilled in a horizontal position on a drill press, the pressurized oil will escape in a spray.
