Check cylinders for leaks - AR01.00-P-1300MCU

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
1 Bring engine up to operating temperature of approx. 80°C
2 Detach right rear wheel   AR40.10-P-1100MCU
3 Remove expansion rivet (1) and cover (2)    
4 Lower vehicle with vehicle lift    
5 Remove maintenance flap    
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

6 Turn cooling system cap on radiator counterclockwise through half a revolution, release overpressure, then unscrew cap on cooling system expansion reservoir
7 Remove spark plugs (R4)    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP15.10-P-1580MCC
8 Unscrew coolant filler neck cap    
INSPECT Check     
9 Screw adapter into spark plug bore on cylinder 1 and connect up top dead center finder IMPORTANT For cylinder 1 and 2 insert SPECIAL TOOL adapter from the left.
For cylinder 3 insert SPECIAL TOOL adapter from the right.

10 Raise vehicle with vehicle lift    
11 Turn engine in direction of engine rotation at the center bolt (3) of the crankshaft belt pulley (4) and set piston on cylinder 1 with the aid of the top dead center locator to ignition TDC IMPORTANT Turn combustion engine until the ball in the inspection glass on the top dead center locator falls suddenly.

12 Lower vehicle with vehicle lift    
13 Tighten parking brake and engage gear    
14 Disconnect top dead center locator on adapter SPECIAL TOOL Adapter Fig 3

15 Connect compressed air hose to pressure loss tester Pressure loss tester Fig 4
16 Attach pressure loss tester to adapter IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL Calibrate pressure loss tester. SPECIAL TOOL Observe operating instructions for the pressure loss tester.

17 Pressurize cylinder 1 with compressed air and read off the pressure loss on pressure loss tester Cylinder leakage: permissible loss total indication *BE01.00-P-1001-02Z

Determine cause.

18 Shift transmission to neutral and release parking brake    
19 Check other cylinders in the same way    
20 Install in the reverse order
