Notes on damage and stone chipping repairs on laminated glass windows - AH67.10-P-0003-01A
The instructions given apply for the Federal Republic of Germany. Other country-specific instructions must be observed accordingly.
Model all
The illustrated damage profiles (stone marks in front window) can be repaired satisfactorily and economically. A repair set is required for this.
Pay attention to the instructions for use given by the manufacturer.
Repair of stone marks is legally permitted in Federal Republic of Germany; however, not at all points on the windshield. Before repairing damaged windshields, please be sure to always observe the following information.
After the repair, a visible point with a size of approx. 2 mm (0.08") diameter can remain.
Only damage on the outside window surface may be repaired.
Preconditions for repair of stone marks
- Damage to the inside of the windshield or to the plastic laminate is not permitted.
- The film may not peel off the glass panes in the windshield.
"Air bubbles" that form between the glass pane and the film indicate that the film peels off the glass panes.
- No cracks up to outer edge of window.
- No cracks that end at rubber window seal.
- Damage must lie outside the edge zone (min. 100 mm (3.94") distance to edge) of the windshield.
- Ensure that moisture has not penetrated into the damaged point (seal damage point immediately after damage using duct tape, and repair it as soon as possible).
- The diameter of the chip should not exceed 5 mm (0.20").
- The diameter of the stone chip damage must be less than 26 mm (1.02"), incl. all radial cracks extending from the point of impact.
- No visibility-impairing scratches in long-range field of vision.
- This repair method can be used only when the damaged point is outside the driver's long-range field of vision
.
The long-range field of vision has a width of 290 mm (11.42"), it is centered around the center point of the steering wheel on the windshield, and it is limited by the windshield wiper field at the top and bottom.
If at least one of the preconditions is not met, the windshield must be replaced.

Assessment of warranty coverage
- Crack formation as a result of stone chipping
- Crack formation as a result of stone chipping is not covered by warranty.
- The cause of cracks/peeling in the windshield must be clarified. For this purpose, the cracks or area peeled off must be checked for stone chipping using a flashlight and magnifying glass. Only if it can be clearly shown that the glass damage is due to a manufacturing defect or factory installation fault, and no trace of stone chipping can be found, can the broken glass be invoiced to Daimler AG.
- In the case of damage covered by warranty, the damage must be proven by means of clear photographs of the damaged point or the original windshield.
- Any costs resulting from stone chipping must be settled with the relevant insurance company.
- Information on documentation
- The vehicle documents are to be clearly photographed next to the relevant crack or peeling.
- The crack or area peeled off is to be highlighted by a white surface (e.g. paper) for better identification when taking a photo.
- After removing the windshield, the edge of the window pane is to be photographed (start of crack).
This documentation also serves to make any damage on the interior window visible.
If the proof is not clearly visible or documented, the warranty claim can be rejected.
See information in the "Warranty Procedure Manual" too.
