Note on working with and handling engine hood lifter - AH91.00-P-0008-01A
MODEL 204.3, 207, 212
Before starting work on the engine hood lifters, the ground line of the battery must be disconnected.
The engine hood lifter must be exchanged if:
- Troubleshooting finds a defective engine hood lifter following a fault message in the diagnostic system.
- There is visible damage when deployed, closed or removed.
- The engine hood hinge is damaged.
- The upper longitudinal member is damaged in the area of the engine hood lifter following a side impact.
- There is heavy soiling of the deployed engine hood lifter, e.g. due to sand, sludge, glass splinters.
- The engine hood lifter is no longer reversible.
Only model 212.098/298, model 207 as of model year 2014 and 212 as of model year 2014: The mechanical components (spring package) can be reversed when the engine hood lifter is actuated but this is not purposeful because the safety bolt is not electrically actuated but instead by means of a non-exchangeable squib. On these models, the engine hood lifter must always be replaced. This engine hood lifter can be recognized by the modified connector housing.
If the engine hood lifter did not deploy:
- Perform reversing procedure to move the safety bolts to max. safe position.
- On a vehicle involved in an accident whose engine hood is no longer reversible, the engine hood lifter must be deployed using Star Diagnosis (password).
In the event of improper handling (striking or dropping), the engine hood lifter must be replaced.
When the engine hood lifters are installed, accelerative movements (hammer strikes) must not occur when working in the vicinity of the engine hood lifter. This applies to the engine hood hinge as well!
If the replacement part packaging is damaged, do not install the engine hood lifter.
Install the engine hood lifter immediately after removing it from the replacement part packaging.
The engine hood lifters must be sent for proper scrapping in their original packaging via the usual disposal channel (e.g. MeRSy).
The respective corresponding valid legal requirements for proper scrapping must be observed in all countries.
Do not transport engine hood lifters in the passenger compartment, but rather stow them securely in the load compartment of the vehicle in their original replacement part packaging so as to prevent any slippage.
