Notes on telephone retrofitting - AH82.70-P-0001-04A
MODEL 129 as of 7/1/98 up to 6/30/00, 168 as of 7/1/98 up to 6/30/00, 170 as of 7/1/98 up to 6/30/00, 202 as of 7/1/98 up to 6/30/00, 208 as of 7/1/98 up to 6/30/00, 210 as of 7/1/98 up to 6/30/00 without CODE 347 (TELE AID emergency call system (D2B)) without CODE 930 (Taxi emergency call)
The retrofitting of a telephone with D2B optical fiber technology, is only advisable for vehicles in which the components of the D2B ring are present, and only in combination with the Audio 30 radio.
Vehicles without these components should be retrofitted, where possible, with conventionally connected telephones as provided by Mercedes-Benz Accessories.
For safety reasons, vehicles equipped with the TELEAID emergency call system (code 347) or Taxi emergency call (code 930) may also only be retrofitted with conventional telephones.
Vehicles with code 273 are prepared for installation of conventionally connected telephones as supplied by Mercedes-Benz Accessories. Operation through the multifunction steering wheel is then not possible.
For vehicles (as of approx. 7/99) with multifunction steering wheel (telephone operation through buttons on steering wheel) the retrofitting of a telephone with D2B optical fiber is practical in technical terms.
To do so, either a radio from the new Audio series or COMAND has to be installed.
On the Audio 30 APS radio make sure that the device bears the part number A 208 820.... Old devices with the part number A 168 820.... are not capable of assuming the master function in the D2B ring. The Audio 30 APS and the Audio 10 radios do not come with a button panel with numeric keypad. Telephone operation through the radio is therefore not possible (see operator's manual).
