To activate the retrofitted voice control form the steering wheel, the functions for the voice control must be activated using Star Diagnosis in the instrument cluster (A1). This is only possible however, as from the instrument cluster's (A1) control unit version 6/03. For vehicles with older control unit versions, e.g. (6/02), a new instrument cluster, version 6/03 and later must be installed in the short term. Star Diagnosis can then be used to enable all the voice control functions. After this the old instrument cluster can be installed again. For instrument clusters with parts A220 540 20 11, A220 540 21 11, A220 540 22 11, the steering wheel control function cannot be operated. In this instance, the instrument cluster has to be replaced with a new instrument cluster. The functions for voice control
- CAN connection with the Head Unit D2B radio, or as shown in the picture, COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3)
- steering wheel activation remain functional through the left multifunction steering wheel switch group (S110) and they can then be used.
If the vehicle is de-energized for extended periods afterwards, then these functions may be lost. Activation will have to be performed again.
