Speed Signal Circuit [06/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (INPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the F32 combination meter assembly connector.

      (to Combination Meter Assembly)
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F32-6 (+S) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V

      HINT: 

      If any of the ECUs specified in the wiring diagram supplies power to the combination meter assembly, the combination meter assembly will output a waveform.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

  2. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (OUTPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Reconnect the F32 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the A32 brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) connector.

      (to Brake Actuator Assembly (Skid Control ECU))
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A32-14 (SP1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG

  3. INSPECT BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (INPUT WAVEFORM) 
    1. Reconnect the A32 brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) connector.
    2. Check the input waveform.

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Combination Meter Assembly)
      1. Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector(s) still connected.
      2. Connect an oscilloscope to terminal F32-5 (SI) and body ground.
      3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      4. Turn a wheel slowly.
      5. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.
        Item Condition
        Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.
        Vehicle condition Ignition switch ON, wheel being rotated

        OK

        The waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration.

        HINT: 

        When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows.

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - ]

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU). Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - ] 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU)) 
    1. Disconnect the F32 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F32-5 (SI) - A32-14 (SP1) Always Below 1 Ω
      F32-5 (SI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - ] 

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the 3D instrument panel junction block assembly.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F32-6 (+S) - 3D-38 Always Below 1 Ω
      F32-6 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  1

    OK

  6. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check for a short in the wire harness and connectors connected to the instrument panel junction block assembly shown in the wiring diagram.

      HINT: 

      If voltage is not present, it is possible that an ECU or circuit has a malfunction. The malfunctioning ECU or circuit will be diagnosed in the following steps.

    2. Disconnect the 3A instrument panel junction block assembly.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3A-18 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - ] 

    Result:  1

    OK

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the A31 ECM connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A31-44 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - ] 

    Result:  3

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
