DTC B1228-11: Driver Seatbelt Lap Pretensioner Deployment Control Circuit Short To Ground; DTC B1228-12: Driver Seatbelt Lap Pretensioner Deployment Control Circuit Short To Battery; DTC B1228-13: Driver Seatbelt Lap Pretensioner Deployment Control circuit o: Procedure

  1. INSPECT DRIVER-SIDE LAP PRETENSIONER SEAT BELT CONNECTOR 
    WARNING:
    • Handling the component parts improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag inflator, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings/cautions and the service information before handling the air bag system components.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [07/2015 - ]

    1. Switch the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    3. Disconnect the driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    4. Inspect the driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt connector. (Corrosion, damage, and disconnected pins)
    5. Is there any malfunction of the driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt connector?

      Yes
      No

  2. INSPECT DRIVER-SIDE LAP PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Remove the column cover.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    2. Disconnect the spiral cable connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    3. Remove the glove compartment.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    4. Disconnect the front passenger airbag assembly connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    5. Disconnect the driver and passenger-side front seat connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    6. Remove the roof headlining.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    7. Disconnect the driver and passenger-side courtain shield airbag assembly connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    8. Remove the B-pillar lower trim.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    9. Disconnect the driver and passenger-side pre-tensioner seat belt connectors.
    10. Disconnect the passenger-side lap pretensioner seat belt connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    11. Remove the rear console.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    12. Disconnect the all center airbag sensor assembly connectors.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    13. Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground:
      1. Center airbag sensor assembly terminal E13-15
      2. Center airbag sensor assembly terminal E13-14

      HINT: 

      • Inspect for continuity while shaking the wiring harness between the center airbag sensor assembly and driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt.
    14. Is there continuity?

      No

  3. INSPECT DRIVER-SIDE LAP PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT 
    1. Driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt and center airbag sensor assembly connectors are disconnected.
    2. Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side):
      1. Driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt terminal E21-1 - center airbag sensor assembly terminal E13-15
      2. Driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt terminal E21-2 - center airbag sensor assembly terminal E13-14

      HINT: 

      • Inspect for continuity while shaking the wiring harness between the center airbag sensor assembly and driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt.
    3. Is there continuity?

  4. INSPECT DRIVER-SIDE LAP PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY 
    1. Driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt and center airbag sensor assembly connectors are disconnected.
    2. Connect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to INSTALLATION [07/2015 - ]

    3. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
    4. Measure the voltage at the following terminals (wiring harness-side):
      1. Center airbag sensor assembly terminal E13-15
      2. Center airbag sensor assembly terminal E13-14

      HINT: 

      • Measure the voltage while shaking the wiring harness between the center airbag sensor assembly and driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt.
    5. Is the voltage 0 V?

      Yes
      No

    No

  5. INSPECT DRIVER-SIDE LAP PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT 
    1. Switch the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.
    3. Connect the center airbag sensor assembly connectors.
    4. Except for the driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt connector, reconnect all disconnected connectors.
    5. Connect the SST (Fuel and thermometer checker) or apply 2 ohms resistance to the driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt connector terminals E21-1 - E21-2.
    6. Set the SST (Fuel and thermometer checker) to 2 ohms.
    7. Connect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to INSTALLATION [07/2015 - ]

    8. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
    9. Clear the DTC for the center airbag sensor assembly using the Techstream.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Restraint Control Module > Clear DTCs 

    10. Perform the DTC inspection for the center airbag sensor assembly using the Techstream.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Restraint Control Module > Trouble Codes 

    11. Are the same DTCs present?

      Yes
      No

    Result:  2

    No

  6. PERFORM CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY DTC INSPECTION 
    1. Switch the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.
    3. Disconnect the SST (Fuel and thermometer checker) or the 2 ohms resistance.
    4. Connect the driver-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt connector.
    5. Connect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to INSTALLATION [07/2015 - ]

    6. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
    7. Clear the DTC for the center airbag sensor assembly using the Techstream.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Restraint Control Module > Clear DTCs 

    8. Perform the DTC inspection for the center airbag sensor assembly using the Techstream.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Restraint Control Module > Trouble Codes 

    9. Are the same DTCs present?

      Yes
      No

    Result:  1

    No 

    DTC TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED. 

    Result:  2

    Yes 

    REPLACE THE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2015 - ] 

  7. REPLACE THE DRIVER-SIDE LAP PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT. 
    1. Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]
    2. Then go to the next step.

      Result

      Proceed to
      NEXT

    Result:  1

  8. REFER TO THE WIRING DIAGRAM AND VERIFY WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A COMMON CONNECTOR BETWEEN CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY TERMINAL AND DRIVER-SIDE LAP PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT TERMINAL. 

    If there is a common connector: 

    • Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to power supply.
    • Replace the malfunctioning part.

    If there is no common connector: 

    • Replace the wiring harness which has a short to power supply.
    1. Go to the next step.

      Result

      Proceed to

  9. REFER TO THE WIRING DIAGRAM AND VERIFY WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A COMMON CONNECTOR BETWEEN CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY TERMINAL AND DRIVER-SIDE LAP PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT TERMINAL. 

    If there is a common connector: 

    • Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for an open circuit.
    • Replace the malfunctioning part.

    If there is no common connector: 

    • Replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit.
    1. Go to the next step.

      Result

  10. REFER TO THE WIRING DIAGRAM AND VERIFY WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A COMMON CONNECTOR BETWEEN CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY TERMINAL AND DRIVER-SIDE LAP PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT TERMINAL. 

    If there is a common connector: 

    • Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground.
    • Replace the malfunctioning part.

    If there is no common connector: 

    • Replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.
    1. Go to the next step.

      Result

  11. REPLACE THE MALFUNCTIONING PART.
