Air Bag System Warning Light Illuminates Constantly [07/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT BATTERY 
    1. Measure the voltage of battery.
    2. Is the voltage 8 V or more?

      No

  2. VERIFY THAT CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR IS CONNECTED 
    WARNING:
    • Handling the component parts improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag inflator, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings/cautions and the service information before handling the air bag system components.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [07/2015 - ]

    1. Switch the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    3. Remove the rear console.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    4. Are all center airbag sensor assembly connectors securely connected?

      Yes
      No

  3. VERIFY THAT COMBINATION METER CONNECTOR IS CONNECTED 
    1. Disconnect the combination meter connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    2. Are all combination meter connectors securely connected?

  4. INSPECT DTCS IN CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to INSTALLATION [07/2015 - ]

    2. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
    3. Clear the DTC for the center airbag sensor assembly using the Techstream.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Restraint Control Module > Clear DTCs 

    4. Inspect the DTC for the center airbag sensor assembly on-board diagnostic system.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Restraint Control Module > Trouble Codes 

    5. Have DTCs been recorded in memory?

      Yes
      No

  5. INSPECT DTCS IN COMBINATION METER 
    1. Inspect the DTC for the combination meter on-board diagnostic system.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

    2. Have DTCs been recorded in memory?

  6. VERIFY WHERE MALFUNCTION IS IN WARNING LIGHTS INDICATION CIRCUIT OR ELSEWHERE 
    1. Turn on all warning lights and indicator lights using the combination meter PID WL+IL of simulation function using the Techstream.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [07/2015 - ]

    2. Do other warning and indicator lights illuminate?

  7. INSPECT POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT OF CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY (TERMINAL E13-23) 
    WARNING:
    • Handling the component parts improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag inflator, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings/cautions and the service information before handling the air bag system components.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [07/2015 - ]

    1. Switch the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    3. Remove the column cover.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    4. Disconnect the spiral cable connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    5. Remove the glove compartment.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    6. Disconnect the front passenger airbag assembly connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    7. Disconnect the driver and passenger-side front seat connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    8. Remove the roof headlining.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    9. Disconnect the driver and passenger-side courtain shield airbag assembly connectors.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    10. Remove the B-pillar lower trim.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    11. Disconnect the driver and passenger-side pre-tensioner seat belt connectors.
    12. Disconnect the driver and passenger-side lap pre-tensioner seat belt connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    13. Disconnect all center airbag sensor assembly connectors.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    14. Connect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to INSTALLATION [07/2015 - ]

    15. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
    16. Measure the voltage at center airbag sensor assembly at wiring harness-side connector terminal E13-23.
    17. Is the voltage 8 V-16 V?

      Result

      Result
      Yes
      No

    Result:  2

    No

  8. VERIFY THAT MALFUNCTION SYMPTOMS DO NOT RECUR AFTER REPAIR 
    1. Connect the center airbag sensor assembly connectors.
    2. Reconnect all disconnected connectors.
    3. Connect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to INSTALLATION [07/2015 - ]

    4. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
    5. Does the air bag system warning light illuminate for approx. 6 s and turn off?

      Yes
      No

    Result:  1

    No 

    RECHECK MALFUNCTION SYMPTOMS, THEN REPEAT FROM STEP 1 IF MALFUNCTION RECURS. 

    Result:  2

    Yes 

    COMPLETE TROUBLESHOOTING, THEN EXPLAIN REPAIRS TO CUSTOMER. 

  9. INSPECT THE SRS1 7.5 A FUSE. 
    • If a fuse is burnt out:
      • Repair or replace the wiring harness which is shorted to ground.
      • Replace the fuse.
    • Replace the fuse.
      • Replace the fuse.
    • If the fuse is normal:
      • Repair or replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit.
    1. Go to the next step.

  10. REPAIR THE COMBINATION METER.
