Inspection [07/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT COMBINATION METER 
    1. Speedometer Inspection

      Using a speedometer tester

      NOTE:

      When only the front or the rear wheels are driven using a speedometer tester, the VSC may determine that the vehicle speed signal is in error and the engine cannot be stopped by the normal operation. If the engine cannot be stopped, perform an emergency engine stop operation.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [07/2015 - ]

      1. Adjust the tire pressure to the specification.
      2. Using a speedometer tester, verify that the values are as indicated in the table.

        • If not as indicated in the table, perform the DTC inspection and related wiring harness inspection for the following modules.

          - ECM

          - VSC

        • If the ECM, VSC, and related wiring harnesses are normal, replace the instrument cluster.

    2. Using the Techstream
      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
      2. After vehicle identification, select the following from the Techstream initialization screen.

        (1) "Data logger"

        (2) "Module"

        (3) "Combination Meter"

      3. Using the simulation function SPEEDOMTR, verify that the values are as indicated in the table.

        120 km/h Speedometer needle moves to approx. 117.25 - 122.75 km/h {72.856 - 76.274 mph}.
        Off Speedometer needle moves to the bottommost position.

        Off Speedometer needle moves to the bottommost position.
        • If not as indicated in the table, perform the related wiring harness inspection.

          - If the related wiring harnesses are normal, replace the instrument cluster.

    3. Fuel Gauge/LCD Inspection
      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
      2. After vehicle identification, select the following from the Techstream initialization screen.

        (1) "Data logger"

        (2) "Module"

        (3) "Combination Meter"

      3. Using the simulation function LCD_SEG, verify that the LCD is illuminated.
        • If there are any non-illuminated area, replace the instrument cluster.

    4. Warning/Indicator Light Illumination Inspection
      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
      2. After vehicle identification, select the following from the Techstream initialization screen.

        (1) "Data logger"

        (2) "Module"

        (3) "Combination Meter"

      3. Using the simulation function WL+IL, verify that the warning/indicator lights in the following table are illuminated.
        • If any of the warning/indicator lights are not displayed, replace the instrument cluster.

    5. Alarm Inspection
      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
      2. After vehicle identification, select the following from the Techstream initialization screen.

        (1) "Data logger"

        (2) "Module"

        (3) "Combination Meter"

      3. Using the simulation function ALARM, verify that the buzzer sounds.
        • If the buzzer does not sound, replace the instrument cluster.

          See step  1

  2. COMBINATION METER CONFIGURATION (USING READ/WRITE FUNCTION) 
    NOTE:

    When the configuration is performed, CAN communication between the instrument cluster and control module connected to the CAN circuit is cut temporarily, and communication error DTCs may be detected. After performing the configuration, verify the DTCs for the control module connected to the CAN circuit and clear it if any DTC is detected.

    HINT: 

    When performing configuration, it is necessary to read the vehicle specification information from the instrument cluster before replacing it. Connect the Techstream to the vehicle and perform vehicle identification before removing the instrument cluster. The vehicle specification information is temporarily stored in the Techstream.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
    2. After vehicle identification, select the following from the Techstream initialization screen.
      1. "Module programming"
    3. Then, select the following from the screen menu.
      1. "Programmable Module Installation"
      2. "Combination Meter"
    4. Perform the configuration following the instructions on the screen.
    5. Verify the DTCs for all of the control modules connected to the CAN circuit.
      • If any DTC is stored, clear it.
      • If the DTC is cleared, finish the procedure because the configuration has been completed normally.
      • If the DTC remains, perform troubleshooting according to the DTC.
  3. COMBINATION METER CONFIGURATION (USING AS-BUILT DATA) 
    NOTE:

    When the configuration is performed, CAN communication between the instrument cluster and control module connected to the CAN circuit is cut temporarily, and communication error DTCs may be detected. After performing the configuration, verify the DTCs for the control module connected to the CAN circuit and clear it if any DTC is detected.

    HINT: 

    If the configuration is performed using As-Built data, the set value of the personalization function is reset to the initial value (condition when shipped from factory). Verify the set value with the customer and perform the personalization function setting after performing the configuration using As-Built data.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
    2. After vehicle identification, select the following from the Techstream initialization screen.
      1. "Module programming"
    3. Then, select the following from the screen menu.
      1. "As-Built"
      2. "Combination Meter"
    4. Perform As-Built following the instructions on the screen.
    5. Verify the DTCs for all of the control modules connected to the CAN circuit.
      • If any DTC is stored, clear it.
      • If the DTC is cleared, finish the procedure because the configuration has been completed normally.
      • If the DTC remains, perform troubleshooting according to the DTC.
  4. COMBINATION METER OPERATION RECORD 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
    2. After vehicle identification, select the following from the Techstream initial screen.
      1. "Operational Record"
    3. Then, select the following from the screen menu.
      1. "Meter Warning System"
    4. Display the instrument cluster operation history according to the screen instructions.
  5. COMBINATION METER PERSONALIZATION FEATURES SETTING PROCEDURE 
    NOTE:

    The personalization feature may not be set correctly if [Not equipped] is selected in the setting displayed on the Techstream. Do not select [Not equipped] in the setting displayed on the Techstream.

    1. Turn And Hazard Indicator Alarm

      Using Techstream

      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
      2. After vehicle identification, select the following from the Techstream initialization screen.

        (1) "Module programming"

        (2) "Programmable Parameters"

      3. Select menu in the "Combination Meter".
      4. Select an item name, and than select option.

        Preference 

        Tester Display Description Default Setting ECU
        TURN Bz VOLUME The volume of the turn and hazard indicator alarm can be changed. Big 01:Small, 10:Big Combination meter
    2. Using multi-display
      • For the setting procedure of the personalization features using the multi-display, refer to "CENTER DISPLAY PERSONALIZATION FEATURES".

        Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [07/2015 - ]

    3. Lights-on Reminder Warning Alarm

      Using Techstream

      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
      2. After vehicle identification, select the following from the Techstream initialization screen.

        (1) "Module programming"

        (2) "Programmable Parameters"

      3. Select menu in the "Combination Meter".
      4. Select an item name, and than select option.

        Preference 

        Tester Display Description Default Setting ECU
        Light Reminder Bz VOLUME The volume for the lights-on reminder warning alarm can be changed. Big or Off*1 01:OFF, 10:Small, 11:Big Combination meter

        * 1: The setting of the lights-on reminder can be changed with the time setting of auto light off system set to Off.

    4. Using multi-display
      • For the setting procedure of the personalization features using the multi-display, refer to "CENTER DISPLAY PERSONALIZATION FEATURES".

    5. Temperature

      HINT: 

      When the ambient temperature display is switched, the set A/C cabin temperature display is also changed.

  6. COMBINATION METER DATA RESET PROCEDURE 
    NOTE:

    Explain the reset items to the customer for their understanding, and then perform the data reset.

    • Related information can be reset collectively using the following procedure:

      Trip computer-related information

      - Average fuel economy

      - Average vehicle speed

      - TRIP value
