DTC P0A78-586: Drive Motor "A" Inverter Performance: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (EV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs related to the EV control system are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Only P0A78-586 is output or P0A78-586 and DTCs other than the ones in the table below are also output. A
      Any of the following DTCs are also output. B

      U0110 (all INF codes)*1 Lost Communication with Drive Motor Control Module "A"
      U0111-826 Lost Communication with Battery Energy Control Module "A"

      HINT: 

      • *1: If any INF codes are output for this DTC, refer to the corresponding diagnostic procedure.
      • P0A78-586 may be output due to a malfunction which causes the DTCs in the table above to be output. In this case, first troubleshoot the output DTCs in the table above. Then, perform a reproduction test to check that no DTCs are output.
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   10 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (EV BATTERY) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV Battery / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs related to the EV battery system are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs related to EV Battery are not output, or DTCs other than the ones in the table below are also output. A
      Any of the following DTCs are also output. B

      HINT: 

      P0A78-586 may be output due to a malfunction which causes the DTCs in the table above to be output. In this case, first troubleshoot the output DTCs in the table above. Then, perform a reproduction test to check that no DTCs are output.

    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   11 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Trouble Codes.
    4. Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.

      HINT: 

      The recorded DTCs and freeze frame data may be used in Steps 7, so make sure to record them.

    5. Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (VOLTAGE SENSOR MALFUNCTION LOCATION INSPECTION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Wait 15 seconds or more.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check if DTCs related to the EV control system are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No DTCs are output, or DTCs other than the following are output. A
      P0AFC-129 is output. B
      P0C76-523 is output. C
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   12 

    C → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (ROAD TEST) 
    1. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    2. Perform a road test that repeats full acceleration to 60 km/h (37 mph) and then braking to a complete stop three times.
      NOTE:

      Perform this road test only in an appropriate safe location, in accordance with all local laws.

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check if DTCs related to the EV control system are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No DTCs are output, or DTCs other than the following are output. A
      P0AFC-129 is output. B
      P0C76-523 is output. C
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    C → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  6. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List.
    4. Select "Battery No. 1 Power Resource VB", "VL-Voltage" and "VH-Voltage" in the Data List.
    5. Shift lever is in P, and read the Data List when the vehicle is stationary.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Both of the following are not satisfied. A
      Both of the following are satisfied:
      • Difference between "Battery No. 1 Power Resource VB" and "VL-Voltage" is less than 5 V.
      • Difference between "VL-Voltage" and "VH-Voltage" is more than 55 V.

      Both of the following are satisfied:
      • Difference between "VH-Voltage" and "VL-Voltage" is less than 5 V.
      • Difference between "Battery No. 1 Power Resource VB" and "VL-Voltage" is more than 15 V.

  7. CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA (EV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Trouble Codes.
    4. Read the freeze frame data of DTC P0A78-586.

      HINT: 

      If P0A78-586 is not reproduced at this time, read the freeze frame data recorded in Step 3.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Both of the following are satisfied or both of the following are not satisfied. A
      "Battery No. 1 Power Resource VB" is less than 188 V or more than 322 V. B
      "VH-Voltage" is less than 188 V or more than 322 V. C
    5. Turn the power switch off.

  8. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (EV BATTERY) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV Battery / Data List.
    4. Shift lever is in P, and read the Data List "Battery No. 1 Power Resource VB" and "Battery No. 1 Block Voltage - V01 to V12", when the vehicle is stationary.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Both of the following are satisfied:
      • Sum of "Battery No. 1 Block Voltage - V01 to V12" is more than ("Battery No. 1 Power Resource VB" - 35 V)
      • Sum of "Battery No. 1 Block Voltage - V01 to V12" is less than ("Battery No. 1 Power Resource VB" + 25 V)
      A
      The preceding condition is not satisfied. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.

  9. REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  10. GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  11. GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  12. REPLACE ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS
