DTC P0A2C-247: Drive Motor "A" Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0A2D-249: Drive Motor "A" Temperature Sensor Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) See step   1 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MOTOR TEMPERATURE) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / Motor Temperature.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      -40°C (-40°F) A
      215°C (419°F) B
      Same as actual temperature C
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   5 

    C → See step   10 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    2. Connect terminals 4 (MMT) and 8 (MMTG) of vehicle side connector B6 of the motor temperature sensor.

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / Motor Temperature
    6. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Techstream Display Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temperature Terminals MMT and MMTG connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Motor Temperature Sensor)

      HINT: 

      The motor temperature sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the EV transaxle with motor assembly.

    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Reconnect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → See step   9 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Connect terminals 16 (MMT) and 17 (MMTG) of connector A23 of the power management control ECU.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / Motor Temperature
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / Motor Temperature
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Techstream Display Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temperature Power switch on (IG) -40°C (-40°F)

      HINT: 

      The motor temperature sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the EV transaxle with motor assembly.

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → See step   9 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the motor temperature sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the power management control ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B6-4 (MMT) - A23-16 (MMT) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      B6-8 (MMTG) - A23-17 (MMTG) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      B6-4 (MMT) or A23-16 (MMT) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      B6-8 (MMTG) or A23-17 (MMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Reconnect the power management control ECU connector.
    5. Reconnect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU MUST BE REPLACED 
    1. Even though it has been determined that the power management control ECU needs to be replaced, make sure to inspect the voltage difference between No. 1 EV battery and No. 2 EV battery before replacing it.

    NEXT → See step   8 

  8. GO TO NO. 1 EV BATTERY - NO. 2 EV BATTERY VOLTAGE DIFFERENCE INSPECTION. Refer to  No. 1 EV Battery - No. 2 EV Battery Voltage Difference Inspection 
  9. REPLACE EV TRANSAXLE WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  10. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
