DTC P0516-769: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0517-770: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connector connections and contact pressure of the relevant terminals for the power management control ECU connectors.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact pressure problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (AUXILIARY BATTERY TEMPERATURE) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / Auxiliary Battery Temperature.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      -40°C (-40°F) A
      215°C (419°F) B
      Same as actual temperature C
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   5 

    C → See step   8 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the thermistor assembly connector.

    2. Connect terminals 2 and 1 of vehicle side connector of the thermistor assembly.
    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / Auxiliary Battery Temperature.
    6. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Techstream Display Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Battery Temperature Terminals 1 and 2 connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Thermistor Assembly)
    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Reconnect the thermistor assembly connector.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → REPLACE THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Connect terminals 16 (THB) and 18 (ETHB) of connector of the power management control ECU.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / Auxiliary Battery Temperature.
    5. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Auxiliary Battery Temperature Terminals THB and ETHB connected.

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the thermistor assembly connector.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / Auxiliary Battery Temperature.
    5. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Techstream Display Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Battery Temperature Power switch on (IG) -40°C (-40°F)
    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Reconnect the thermistor assembly connector.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → REPLACE THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the thermistor assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the power management control ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C22-16 (THB) - A35-2 Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      C22-18 (ETHB) - A35-1 Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C22-16 (THB) or A35-2 - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      C22-18 (ETHB) or A35-1 - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Power Management Control ECU)
    4. Reconnect the thermistor assembly connector.
    5. Reconnect the power management control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU MUST BE REPLACED 
    1. Even though it has been determined that the power management control ECU needs to be replaced, make sure to inspect the voltage difference between No. 1 EV battery and No. 2 EV battery before replacing it.

  8. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
  9. GO TO NO. 1 EV BATTERY - NO. 2 EV BATTERY VOLTAGE DIFFERENCE INSPECTION. Refer to  No. 1 EV Battery - No. 2 EV Battery Voltage Difference Inspection
