Speedometer Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if CAN communication DTCs are output. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [07/2013 - 12/2013] .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output. A
      DTCs are output. B

    B → See step   8 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. According to the display on the tester, perform the Active Test.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Speed Meter Operation Speedometer 0, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, 240 km/h -

      OK

      The vehicle speed displayed on the tester is approximately the same as that of the speedometer reading.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED METER) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. According to the display on the tester, read the Data List.
      COMBINATION METER

      Min.: 0 (0)
      Max.: 255 (158)
      Approximately same as actual vehicle speed (when vehicle is being driven) Unit km/h (mph)

      OK

      The vehicle speed displayed on the tester is approximately the same as the actual vehicle speed.

      NOTE:

      Determine whether the value displayed on the tester is within the acceptable range by referring to the reference values described in "On-Vehicle Inspection". Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [07/2013 - 12/2013] .

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM 
    1. Check if the vehicle stability control system outputs DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2013 - ] .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output. A
      DTCs are output. B

    A: Go to next step 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Data List.
    5. According to the display on the tester, read the Data List.
      COMBINATION METER

      Approximately same as actual vehicle speed (when vehicle is being driven) Unit km/h (mph)

      The vehicle speed displayed on the tester is approximately the same as the actual vehicle speed.

      NOTE:

      Determine whether the value displayed on the tester is within the acceptable range by referring to the reference values described in "On-Vehicle Inspection". Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [07/2013 - 12/2013] .

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new one. Refer to REMOVAL [07/2013 - ] .

      OK

      The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK → END 

  7. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2013 - ] 
  8. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [07/2013 - 12/2013] 
  9. GO TO VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [07/2013 - ] 
  10. REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2013 - ]
