Speedometer Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if a CAN communication DTC is output. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTC is not output A
      CAN communication DTC is output B

    B → See step   6 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER OPERATION) 
    1. Use the Active Test to check the operation of the speedometer. Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST .
      COMBINATION METER

      Speed Meter Operation Speedometer 0, 40, 80, 120 (mph)*1 Confirm that the vehicle is stopped with the engine idling.
      Acceptable range (mph): [Control range → Speedometer display]
      • 40 → 39 to 42.5 mph
      • 80 → 79 to 84 mph
      • 120 → 120 to 118 to 125.5 mph
      0, 40, 80, 120, 160 (km/h)*2 Confirm that the vehicle is stopped with the engine idling.
      Acceptable range (km/h): [Control range → Speedometer display]
      • 40 → 38 to 43.5 km/h
      • 80 → 78 to 85 km/h
      • 120 → 118.5 to 126.5 km/h
      • 160 → 158 to 168 km/h
      • *1: for U.S.A.
      • *2: for Canada

      OK

      Speedometer indication is normal.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED METER) 
    1. Use the Data List to check if the speedometer is operating properly. Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST .

      Vehicle speed displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed.

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FR/FL/RR/RL WHEEL SPEED) 
    1. Use the Data List to check the wheel speed. Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST .
      ABS/VSC/TRAC

      FR Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 mph (0 km/h), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Vehicle stopped: 0 km/h (0 mph) When driving at a constant speed, there are no large fluctuations.
      FL Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 mph (0 km/h), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Vehicle stopped: 0 km/h (0 mph) When driving at a constant speed, there are no large fluctuations.
      RR Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 mph (0 km/h), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Vehicle stopped: 0 km/h (0 mph) When driving at a constant speed, there are no large fluctuations.
      RL Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 mph (0 km/h), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Vehicle stopped: 0 km/h (0 mph) When driving at a constant speed, there are no large fluctuations.

      Vehicle speed displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed.

  5. REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU 
    1. Replace the skid control ECU with a new or normally functioning one. Refer to REMOVAL .

      OK

      The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → END (SKID CONTROL ECU IS DEFECTIVE) 

  6. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  7. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. GO TO VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
