DTC B1698/82: Door Side Airbag Sensor LH Initialization Incomplete: Procedure

  1. CHECK HISTORY DTC 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    2. Check for history DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      History DTC B1697/82 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than history DTCs B1697/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag ECU assembly and door side airbag sensor LH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

      HINT: 

      If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag ECU assembly and door side airbag sensor LH.
    5. Check that the terminals of connectors are not damaged.

    NG → REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH CIRCUIT (OPEN) 
    1. Using a service wire, connect terminals 24 (BBL+) and 23 (BBL-) of connector B.

      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F7-4 (BDL+) - F7-3 (BDL-) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH CIRCUIT (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F7-4 (BDL+) - F7-3 (BDL-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Door Side Airbag Sensor LH
      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Door Side Airbag Sensor LH)

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH CIRCUIT (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F7-4 (BDL+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      F7-3 (BDL-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH CIRCUIT (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F7-4 (BDL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      F7-3 (BDL-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → See step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Connect the connector to the airbag ECU assembly.

    2. Interchange the door side airbag sensor LH with door side airbag sensor RH and connect the connectors.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs B1693/81 and B1698/82 are not output. A
      DTC B1693/81 is output. B
      DTC B1698/82 is output. C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTCs B1693/81 and B1698/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    10. Return the door side airbag sensor LH and door side airbag sensor RH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

  8. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire LH.

      HINT: 

      The service wire has already been inserted into connector B.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      FG1-1 (BBL+) - FG1-2 (BBL-) Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

      *4 Floor Wire
      *5 Service Wire

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE LH 

  9. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire LH.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      FG1-1 (BBL+) - FG1-2 (BBL-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Door Side Airbag Sensor LH
      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
      *3 Front Door Wire LH
      *4 Floor Wire

      (to Front Door Wire LH)

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE LH 

  10. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire LH.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      FG1-1 (BBL+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      FG1-2 (BBL-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE LH 

  11. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire LH.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      FG1-1 (BBL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      FG1-2 (BBL-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
      *3 Front Door Wire LH
      *4 Floor Wire

      (to Front Door Wire LH)

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE LH 

  12. REPLACE DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  13. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  14. GO TO DTC B1697/82. Refer to  DTC B1695/16: Door Side Airbag Sensor LH Malfunction; DTC B1697/82: Lost Communication with Door Side Airbag Sensor LH  
  15. REPLACE AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
