DTC B1644/82: Lost Communication with Rear Sensor Bus LH: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the side airbag sensor assembly LH and rear airbag sensor LH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

      HINT: 

      If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor assembly LH and rear airbag sensor LH.
    5. Check that the terminals of connectors are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH

    1. Interchange the side airbag sensor assembly LH with side airbag sensor assembly RH and connect the connectors to them.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1644/82 is output A
      DTC B1634/81 and B1644/82 are not output B
      DTC B1634/81 is output C

      *1 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH
      *2 Door Side Airbag Sensor LH
    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    10. Return the side airbag sensor assembly LH and side airbag sensor assembly RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    B → See step   8 

    C → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN) 
    1. Using a service wire, connect terminals 2 (BEL+) and 1 (BEL-) of connector C.

      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G13-1 (BEL+) - G13-2 (BEL-) Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Disconnect the service wire from connector C.

      *2 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly LH
      *3 Floor Wire
      *4 Service Wire

      (to Rear Airbag Sensor LH)

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G13-1 (BEL+) - G13-2 (BEL-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Rear Airbag Sensor LH
      *2 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly LH
      *3 Floor Wire
      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Side Airbag Sensor Assembly LH)

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      G13-1 (BEL+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      G13-2 (BEL-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      *3 Floor Wire

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G13-1 (BEL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      G13-2 (BEL-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with rear airbag sensor RH and connect the connectors.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs B1634/81 and B1644/82 are not output. A
      DTC B1644/82 is output. B
      DTC B1634/81 is output. C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTCs B1634/81 and B1644/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    10. Return the rear airbag sensor LH and rear airbag sensor RH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

  8. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  9. REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  10. REPLACE AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  11. REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH. Refer to  REMOVAL
