DTC B1693/81: Door Side Airbag Sensor RH Initialization Incomplete: Procedure

  1. CHECK PAST DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    2. Turn the ignition switch off.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Check the past DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1692/81 is output A
      DTC B1697/82 is output B
      DTC B1692/81 and B1697/82 are not output C

    A → See step   10 

    B → See step   11 

    C: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and side airbag sensor RH (for front side).

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and side airbag sensor RH (for front side).
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and side airbag sensor RH (for front side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH (FOR FRONT SIDE) CIRCUIT [CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH (FOR FRONT SIDE)]

    1. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E8-4 (BBR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      E8-3 (BBR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    4. Turn the ignition switch off.
    5. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 17 and 18 of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E8-4 (BBR+) - E8-3 (BBR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E8-4 (BBR+) - E8-3 (BBR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      E8-4 (BBR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      E8-3 (BBR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH (FOR REAR SIDE) CIRCUIT

    1. Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor RH (for front side) and side airbag sensor RH (for rear side).
    2. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      G16-4 (BCR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      G16-3 (BCR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Using a service wire, connect terminals 2 and 1 of connector E.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G16-4 (BCR+) - G16-3 (BCR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    9. Disconnect the service wire from connector E.
    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G16-4 (BCR+) - G16-3 (BCR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      G16-4 (BCR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      G16-3 (BCR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK DTC

    1. Interchange the side airbag sensor RH (for front side) with side airbag sensor LH (for front side) and connect the connectors to them.
    2. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1698/82 is output A
      DTC B1693/81 and B1698/82 are not output B
      DTC B1693/81 is output C

    8. Turn the ignition switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    10. Return the side airbag sensor RH (for front side) and side airbag sensor LH (for front side) to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    C: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK DTC

    1. Interchange the side airbag sensor RH (for rear side) with side airbag sensor LH (for rear side) and connect the connectors to them.
    2. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1693/81 is output A
      DTC B1698/82 is output B
      DTC B1693/81 and B1698/82 are not output C

      HINT: 

      DTCs other than B1693/81 and B1698/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    8. Turn the ignition switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    10. Return the side airbag sensor RH (for rear side) and side airbag sensor LH (for rear side) to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

  8. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - FRONT DOOR WIRE RH)

    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.
    2. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      EG1-1 (BBR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      EG1-2 (BBR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Using a service wire, connect terminals 17 and 18 of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      EG1-1 (BBR+) - EG1-2 (BBR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    9. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      EG1-1 (BBR+) - EG1-2 (BBR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      EG1-1 (BBR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      EG1-2 (BBR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  9. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH (FOR REAR SIDE) - FRONT DOOR WIRE RH)

    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.
    2. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      EG1-3 (BCR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      EG1-4 (BCR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Using a service wire, connect terminals 3 and 4 of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      EG1-3 (BCR+) - EG1-4 (BCR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    9. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      EG1-3 (BCR+) - EG1-4 (BCR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      EG1-3 (BCR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      EG1-4 (BCR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  10. GO TO DTC B1692/81. Refer to  DTC B1690/15: Door Side Airbag Sensor RH Malfunction; DTC B1692/81: Lost Communication with Door Side Airbag Sensor RH 
  11. GO TO DTC B1697/82. Refer to  DTC B1695/16: Door Side Airbag Sensor LH Malfunction; DTC B1697/82: Lost Communication with Door Side Airbag Sensor LH  
  12. REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH (FOR FRONT SIDE). Refer to  REMOVAL 
  13. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM 
  14. REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH (FOR REAR SIDE). Refer to  REMOVAL 
  15. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
